    Triggers!

This genus is the most friendly of all triggers and are generally considered reef safe... having said that, they may still dismember any shrimp though. The million dollar question. http://www.marinecenter.com/fish/trigge ... chtrigger/ Layton
  2. Was there something I said which was incorrect about NSW? You make it sound like I was making stuff up about it just because I don't use it. Layton
  3. Not really a surprise, it's common knowledge. But at least you know what those discrepancies are and that they are relatively consistent (until formulas change etc.) NSW could have anything in it, and that could change on a daily basis. Plus it has "life" in it. Layton

    Triggers!

What made you think that? Did I say it was my tank?

    Triggers!

 Before someone goes off in a wild tangent (again), none of these pics are from my tank.

    Triggers!

Triggers of the Xanthicthys genus are my latest interest in fish at the moment. All going to plan, i'll be the owner of a pair of Crosshatch Trigger in the next few weeks. Here are some pics of the three reef safe species in this genus i've collected over the last few weeks: Xanthicthys mento - Crosshatch Trigger Xanthicthys auromarginatus - Blue Throat Trigger Xanthicthys ringens - Sargassum Trigger Layton
  8. Personally I'd be more worried about the things you can't test for. Layton
  9. I believe that dissolved oxygen is tested with a probe (like pH is). The aquacontroller has an optional dissolved oxygen probe. Dunno how they work though, i've never really looked into it. I guess what's more important is even if you can test for it, what are you going to do about the results of the testing? How can you regulate the number you are getting using practical methods? Layton
  10. Last time I saw that fish available in the States, it was several hundred US dollars. Probably not in a lot of peoples price range. Layton

    SEIO M1100

That's what I thought until I actually got one. The only use for seios is as landfill.
  12. ... the difference being the Melbourne aquarium is total crap. Layton

    SEIO M1100

Pretty sure they all have it. It's inside the (formerly blue) aluminium box at the end of the pump. It's the first i've heard of a stream crapping out.

They shouldn't burn out. They have intelligent power control. Basically it can tell when the impedance (electrical resistance) of the pump changes (like if the impeller gets stuck) and kills power to the pump, and it turns that irritating screeching alarm on. It's there to stop the pump from any physical damage from overheating, and burning the windings out. The only problem i've had with a stream was after about 3 years, one of the built up calcium deposits around the rotor which stopped it from turning. A soaking in vinegar fixes it. Layton
  15. They released the great white last year I think. I was surprised (if I heard right) that since they opened in 1994 they have had over 40 million visitors! That's almost 10,000 people a day, every day since it opened! There systems look very impressive, the control room looks very automated, entirely computer controlled and monitored. I found the jellyfish stuff really interesting. The larvae actually form what look like coral polyps, and then multiple individual jellyfish detach from the end of the polyp. Very strange. It's a shame they don't also have tropical marine displays there. Layton

    I.D. me

I know. (I realise I'm the only one who's required to provide "proof" of what I say ;-) ) Layton

I thought you might have had some useful info. The phosphorous content of many species of caulerpa and macro algaes is quite low.

    SEIO M1100

Hey Brian, i'll swap my M1500 for your streams.
  19. nope, what's a new tank got to do with white spot? I agree with cookie.

The tanks looking all right. Everything survived fine no losses or anything, there are some piles of detritus around though. Relaxing in the states... dunno about that, it was a work trip, not a holiday. I would have spent longer over there if it were a holiday, there were heaps of places I would have liked to visit, but didn't have the time. (Deep down I know you missed me Cookie ) Layton
