The red mushroom is a sun coral.

If it's half way up the rockwork, it's a green Sinularia flexibilis. If it's on top of the rockwork, it's an algae blenny.
  3. There are probably easier ways but i'd use a combo of the lasso tool, and the magic wand with high threshold. Maybe find and replace colour? Dunno.
  4. It was eaten. Didn't really notice if one colour was favoured over the other.

Didn't get a full tank pic today, the batteries crapped out. red mushrooms? Dunno.
  6. Nope, like I said it was weird, same conditions, it was just brown while the rest was vibrant green.
  7. Ignasi Torralba he's from Barcelona: http://www.webdummies.org/www/reefdesig ... index.html Looks real to me, maybe a little photoshop, but the corals are definitely in the tank, and they are probably close to that vibrant.

Found an old pic from back in 2001/2002 ish Still got the gold polyped sacrophyton on the far right. The white polyped sacrophyton on the bottom left. The green sinularia middle left. Candy cane behind the blue tang, the two clowns are the same two as in the anemone at the top. Still had the blue tang up until a few weeks ago (the sohal harassed him to death)
  9. It seems to take a while to get growing, It's going to be impressive once it gets to a decent size!

Personally when it comes to algae, I've always found that it's far more important to focus on taking stuff out of the tank, rather than adding stuff to the tank. Works every time.
  11. I had one which went pretty bright under 10k's. The nudibranch's ate it, but there are a few other people around ChCh with it, i've never seen it the same colour in other people's tanks though. It was a weird coral because most of it was a vibrant green, but there was one swirl in it which was brown, and never changed colour.
  12. I'm not really doing it as a commercial thing, especially for the aquarium market. It's not that big. I decided to create one mainly because i plan on doing a bit of travelling, and want the tank to be as self sufficient as possible, and to be able to check up on it at anytime, and control it remotely, then only call someone in to do something when I really need to. The core system is transplantable into other types of completely unrelated systems, so there is potential to create other products (with much larger markets) from it. The bandwidth and channels on the uni analysers are limited, and practically useless unfortunately, i've already tried But if I want to do anything related to electrical engineering, i'll need this equipment anyway I was hoping I wouldn't need it so soon though. It'll get done, but at the moment it's a matter of having spare cash. Layton
  13. I think there is meant to be another huge dump of snow towards the end of the week. The forecast is for snow in ChCh on friday again.

Xanthicthys triggers (crosshatch and blue throat triggers) are considered reef safe, but will more than likely eat shrimp (I don't have any though) they don't touch corals or anything. The raccoon butterflies (and most butterflies in general) are polyp munchers, but it causes minimal damage in the tank. It gets well fed, so only picks a little at the corals. They grow fast enough (even when the tanks not at it's best) not to worry about them killing anything. I've got some other interesting butterflies in mind which I want to try too. Hopefully I can get them within the next month or so. Layton
  17. How's the new tank coming Rob? I guess you've had other problems last week with all the snow and power issues down there. Layton

I was going to give that anemone away at one point. I came virtually brown, and pretty bland. I'm glad I kept it. Bad luck Robert ;-) Here are a couple of fish: Male Crosshatch Trigger Shoal tang Sohal and Racoon Butterfly

Tanks looking pretty average but here are some corals: H. giga (I think) anemone and clowns Purple Monti Cap Brown Blue Green A. samoensis Blue A. tenuis Yellow Green A. austera (with a few purple polyps)
  20. I know at least six of those different ones pictured above are floating around NZ. I personally have at least five of them.
  21. Well, they don't usually do any harm. They're a detrivore, so if you've got a lot of crap in the sand, you'll usually have a lot of them, the less crap the fewer. I guess all they are are additional bioload you have to support. Layton
  22. Some freaking timing there. Four posts all at 3:22 pm
  23. The lack of sand hasn't killed the corals yet.
  24. Sounds like a bristle worm, usually they aren't a problem.
