  1. My Tribute to new bands that sound old school. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GV9CYiW ... -R5h5PftUt http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2DOYbZU ... -R5h5PftUt
  2. Lol, OK. We discard the first 50mls as per the instructions from the kit. If I go blind it'll prolly be because of other things of which I cannot mention :slfg:
  3. Thanks Ira, that did actually cross my mind as I was writing that post.
  4. I dunno were not scientists. But when you have a jack Daniels can you taste the ethanol? nope. With our first batch we could, you could smell it too, it was drinkable but rough. This batch is smooth and has an almost fruity aroma. 24 hrs before distillation we add a product called Turbo clear which removes gases and impurities from the wash. And yes, you have to monitor the temp during distillation constantly (between 55 and 60 degrees) I assume that this has more to do with quality than the final filtration but as I say, we're just beginners, Alan would be able to tell you haw it all works probably.
  5. We like to have a drink but we don't like getting drunk, especially with spirits, we're trying to teach our teenager to be responsible.
  6. This batch is yummy, we used plain chelsea sugar rather than dextrose this time and it doesn't have that ethanol taste.
  7. Learning to pace oneself comes with age and experience Son :bggrn:
  8. Nothing like a shot of tequila to get the party started.
  9. Were putting another wash down tomorrow so we can age it, plus we've a few mates wanting some bourbon which seems to be the most popular. Alan, we add the correct water then filter it through a carbon filter but there is still a ethanol taste, if we filter it twice would that take the ethanol flavor out or is there some other filter process we could do as well as to smooth it out more?
  10. Just finished. 4.9ltrs at 93% So according to the adjustment chart if we adjust it to 38% that'll give us 11.9 ltrs.
  11. Well it's well worth it cost wise, Taste isn't quite the same but still drinkable. Straight shots are...interesting!
