Just checking. If indeed this is as stated then it has grown pretty big pretty quick. But been so long since I even looked at a goldfish thought I'd just put it out there for you GOLDFISHIENARDOS to scope. Thanks PP -

I believe this is the most proactive message I have seen on the forum for a wee while. You are to be commended, Oh great fish room sage. Just one thought ...I can think of one member not needing this advice as she only comes out at night?? Can you guess who?? PP

I love NZ Post. Look into my eye!!! How about a new competition err..?? To design a NZ Post Proof packaging. Is there something out there which is fiendishly simple & which when fashioned will be light weight & doesn't cost the earth. I have heard that nothing is foolproof as fools a fiendishly clever! He he he...can this be done!? Titanium is too expensive & is probably sourced from Russia where most of the submarines it's recycled from have been leaking radiation for ages & so if you use this your plants get from A to B ok but once in your tank they glow! Hmmm interesting effect at night. PP

Hi & welcome to the forums! PP

Thanks for clearing that up. Love the (brittle)sea star? PP

Yo dumb question time. I have seen algae growing on glass in trop marine tanks but does it also grow on corals. I presume you get some blanketing stuff, otherwise does it simply not grow on coral??? Such is my vast knowledge on this subject!! PP

Hi all. Some of you requested to see photo's of my tanks. Pulled a few favours to get a friend to take these as I have no digi camera at the moment. Only my 6ft tank at the moment. This is not a "for display" tank as such. It had to be thrown together over night due to my previous 240 litre tank developing a crack in December 2007. It has been running with the odd plants & fish changed/added here & there since then. The tank needs a weed eater run through it as things are a bit over run in places but hopefully you get the general idea. Hope you like it. PP -
I understand your thinking and habits alanmin. I have met many like you and also many with experience beyond yours & probably mine put together. The experienced keeper just seems to know stuff don't they. Especially when they don't push the envelope and stick with what they know. However some people, who may be new or simply want to be absolute when it comes to water parameters for certain species, if the experts say you need X and our budding ichthyologist has been having problems the price and effort involving a test kit/s is insignificant compared to failure and discouragement. Fish prices, lives lost, time etc. etc. With the experience I've gathered by now I could certainly ditch tests altogether, if I was simply keeping the general tank. Tanks & plants communicate their issues as do fish, as for some tanks just use your nose right? Peeee uuuu! I think it's important that people new to the hobby have mentors. People to whom they can turn to sort through the guesswork and heep of info to find the 'must knows' gathered over an extended period of decades in a hobby. Failing this being close at hand, a forum like this is such a great source. Great stuff FNZAS by the way this site Rocks!...and fish...and plants and.... PP

Hi. I have been skeptical regarding digital pH meters. Is it simply the lure of poking a stick into your tank and getting an instant digital answer? Lots of Q's follow:- Does yours need calibration. If so, how often & what with??? I was turned off by the whole calibration thing when it had use by dates on the liquid or tablets required for the purpose although you'd buy the thing believing it would be instant. Don't misunderstand me I like the digital idea :)They have batteries from what I've seen so far, but if I have to replace batteries & liquid or some other calibration stuff I begin to have problems seeing the value when I could just grab the liquid or tablet based kit and it's ready to go. Do you trust it's readings are accurate? I've used API Liquid & tablet based tests in the past. Typically the tablets use by date was past before I could finish them. I have worked in a pet store in the past & was constantly frustrated / amused when the supplier of test kits to pet stores sent us tablet based test kits or the refill tablets with dates already expired. Check this before you purchase. Try to get one which will have a reasonable shelf life. The 'sale bin' product should be regarded as suspect in this regard until proven otherwise. To close, I think if someone can give a compelling enough statement shouting out the virtues of these marvelous "Rods of Power" I may be persuaded to give em a whirl! PP

Thanks again for the hearty welcome chaps & chapettes! Hope I may be of some assistance. Billaney, thanks for rising to the occasion with photo's. I hope others will follow suit. Thanks for the welcome Peep's. Thanks Zev for the typo correction. Nice to not have to jump through hoops! You're beautiful! Thanks for the advice and reminder re rules SamH. Issues hmmm? Don't have digi camera at the moment. I may have to call in some favours to remedy this. Pending that though I'll show you my tanks if you show me yours. Think of it as a show of good faith err. Phoenix I have worked in the aquatic retail sphere & I believe your story a sad truth had us rolling round. That mother has deep seated issues from her own childhood. Guessing these played out again through her daughter. What manner of beast is Rusty? What do you, Phoenix & Livingart, keep & under what conditions? I hope to meet some of you some time but for now this will have to do. PP -
Howdy! Having trawled this forum long enough, it seems the customary thing to say gidday & introduce & say stuff about self. I have kept fish on & off since 19mumble cough. I've been a member of the Wellington club for the best part of 20ish years. Seems my hobby goes through cycles, I imagine some of you can identify with this? Occassionally I feel the pull towards Tropical Marine, but I take a Disprin & the feeling goes away,(The costs oh heck! More stuff to learn! FRAG!). Marine keepers please don't take any of that, the wrong way. I stay with freshwater tropical as I need to express/release my inner fish nutter through Aquascaping but mostly because seeing Takashi Amano's work taught me that there is no need for me to feel like my hobby has plateaued. There are no limits. I certainly have room to improve & still have lots to learn. My artistry is only as limited as my ability to see, appreciate,be inspired by, replicate, learn. Hopefully, one day I may get to inspire. I get a kick from seeing children pick up this hobby & keep it alive for the generations to come. Is that bad? I hate to think of a world in which the ever growing electronic interactive media destroys the human soul for expressive creativity through such art forms and the word hobby has gone down the gurglar! Sorry ...I went on a bit...but that seems fitting knowing me. Takashi Amano's works restarted the pulse in my fish keeping & gave me new direction. :bounce: I have bred Siamese Fighting fish in the past. I intend to again but when?? I presently keep 2 Paludariums A 2 ft & a 3 ft. I am painfully aware that I have spelt Paludarium incorrectly in my signature & would really appreciate it if the spelling could be corrected buy you peep's with control please??? I do keep 1 other 6 ft Aquarium. Loads of tanks in storage! Hmmmm Cheers PP
