Yes!! My Beardie Loki
-
yeah lol, it's hard when you have to look at it all day though (It's setup next to my desk at work)
-
Still a big mess of green, have small bag of Phosphate remover in the aquaclear as well as some Seachem Purigen and have had my skimmer working well for the last 4-5 days. It's not really showing any sign of going yet, it's worse than the photos i put up, not much new growth just alot longer.

I've currently got a damsel in my tank and got given some small soft corals and an anemome when I picked him up, the guy was closing down his tank and moving the next day. The leather coral that you can see in the above pics and small mushrooms all looked like they were doing good til last Friday, now the leather does not open up and the mushrooms look abit sick. The cycle only showed done on Mon and still shows clear with new testing today, I did a did a 50% water change last night with ASW and cleaed out some of the hair aglae but there still alot on the rock. Any ideas on what need to do. Also just received some strontium, Magnesium and iodide supplements today that I got off trademe 2nd hand if they may help.

After a 50% water change and algae removal with a sharp blade, whats the best way to get it off the rock or should I let it just die off?
-
Ok just tested this morning and reading 0 across the board for Ammonia, Nitrate and Nitrite
-
yeah I'm growing a lawn on the front of my tank Nitrites still reading 1.0 really wish this would drop I've been home sick last two days (it's a workplace tank) so had abit of a suprise, had gone through the brown and started on the green when last it saw it and now covered in it. Also in the middle at the front of the rock was what looked like 2 small dug out areas of white sand (most of has purple and green on it) I've pushed the sand back up to the rock to see if it happens again, could I have hitchhikers? Nearly all the rock was dry rock but I do have acouple of small pieces from someone elses tank and did a water change last Saturday with NSW instead of ASW like normal.

Is it possible to get though your cycle with no algae growth cause I'm in the middle of my 4th week cycling and it looks from the tests to be nearing the end and rock still white, only seen a couple of tiny brown algae spots and a dozen purple spots that I am guessing is the start of coralline algae. Date----22/6------30/6-------1/7----5/7-----7/7 Amm-----0.5-------0.5------- 0.5------0------0 NI-------0.2-------1.0--------5.0-----5.0----1.0 NA-------0---------10--------10------20-----20 -
Yes that Remora looks good, thought skimmers for nano tanks were abit over kill and normally bulky but will look in to getting one of those, does that mean not a frequent water changes required as was going to do weekly ones but less would would be better as seem to go though 10litres per week pure dew just for top ups. The aquafuge I was going to put macroalgae in and liked that it kept the heater out of the main tank. The sand I added party for look but also because the 1st fish I want to get is a yellow watchman goby or similar and thought they needed a sandy bottom.

can give you a container of them for free if you pm me your address

UPDATE Have added 1mm Argonite sand to tank last friday, have alot more evaporation now without a lid on the tank but got a auto top up system on trademe last night so will have to see how that goes. Currently using 10l Pure Dew bottles as water supply. As for the cycle it seems like it's in the middle of the process, using API test bottles ---------22/6------30/6-------1/7 Amm-----0.5-------0.5------- 0.5 NI-------0.2-------1.0--------5.0 NA-------0---------10--------10 Temp is 25C and salt reading today is 1.023

Ok have my my new light on the tank now, looks good but now I have no Top on my tank, thinking of getting a perspex top made to fit, is that a good idea or will it cut down on the good lighting. Should I leave it toppless?
-
Ok so have ordered the T5 lighting above. Is it ok to put the sand in tomorrow, I have 1mm argonite chip, was waiting for any dead material to come out of the rock on the glass bottom but have had very little. Also I have just swapped out the heater for a 55w aqua-one heater that fits in the aquaclear in the space I setup but it is resting on the bottom of the aquaclear, is this ok? it's not going to melt it is it?
-
so one of these would be better Built-In Electronic T5 Ballasts 3x Power Switch (1 - T5 + Cooling Fan, 1 - T5, 1 - Bluemoon LED) Non-Corrosive Powder Coated Aluminum Housing Built-In Cooling Fan Clear Acrylic Lens Cover Highly Polished Reflector Flipable Mounting Legs Included 2x Odyssea 24W T5 High Output Daylight 12000K 2x Odyssea 24W T5 High OutputActinic Blue 2x Dual bluemoon LED (60cm version) livingart would you be willing to sell some of your cheto? Would I not add some til after the cycle has finished or can I add it straight away?
-
Only on 2nd week of the cycle so still awhile to go yet.

Although I will add some corals I am not expecting this to be the ultimate reef tank, I would be happy even with just fish and live rock but think the weipro leds will allow me to have some low light corals. from what I understand one of the main problems with led lights is with deep tanks and mine is only 300mm. They seem to be doing alright here http://www.fish-street.com/product_deta ... ubscribe=1 and while granted MH lighting is better I can't justify getting them for a small office tank. As for fish for the tank, these are the ones I am thinking of in order of preference Yellow watchman Goby Boxing Shrimp (can we get these here?) Flame Hawk Yellow tail Damsel Fire Fish Fire shrimp Cleaner shrimp I am thinking 3 fish and 1 shrimp so prob leave out the fire fish and choose one shrimp

+++++++++++++++++Update+++++++++++++++ I ended up doing a AquaClear Fuge with a modified AquaClear 110 and adding a Tunze Nanostream 6025 it will hold the heater in the small chamber once I find a shorter one that fits with the lid on and some macro-alge plant in the larger, would like to find some chaeto which people overseas recommend and is found on our coast in summer or do people have other suggestions?
-
Thinking of upgrading the lighting to Weipro LED Lighting Do you think it's worth while doing a sump for a tank this size, was thinking about doing one but would have to work out a overflow with no holes in the tank
-
Does this look alright or do I have too much live rock in there. Waiting on a better flow pump to arrive so just a cheap flow for some flow, put rock in on sat
-
Thanks for everyones help, have just won a new 60litre complete with light, filter and stand for $100 on trademe so will now use this for my marine as will not have as much limitations. Will probably gift the AR-380 to my niece

Thinking I'll go the PL route with a AQUA ONE PL TUBE 24W TRIPHOSPHOR 7100K / BLUE 12000K http://www.petdoor.co.nz/cart_product24 ... E%2012000K Where can I get the fitting from? Bunnings? Google is failing me for once
-
currently the AR380 has only got one 10watt standard flourescent, it doesn't have the PL tube that the newer ones have. Don't know how much of a difference there is. What I'd like to have in it is a pair of clowns, a small goby and maybe some kind of shrimp. If some low light corals will work with it then great but I'm not brothered if its fish only with coral rock. I want to keep the current hood and mount the new LEDs in it and the less soldering and wiring up the better
-
Been looking at DIY posts on the net for LED lighting as wanting to make my AR380 Marine and came across this site, I know CREE LED's are one brand normally suggested so are ethier of these premade strips suitable? http://www.superlight.co.nz/FWS/modules ... .php?id=22 or http://www.superlight.co.nz/FWS/modules ... .php?id=18
