At the park the other Sunday, is great has some nice big rocks for him to warm up on. -
Looking for comments on anything which could be wrong with my setup, I think it's ready for a gecko but will prob be a week or so til I get one. UTH on left and moonlight bulb in lamp above, temps were 92-95F just with the UTH til the cold snap today and now with the blub on are back to 95F. Thinking of changing the hot end to tile under the hide as will add sphagnum moss to hold moisture and adding one of those repta probe thermostats to keep temps spot on, should I hook it up to the blub or UTH?

I'm wanting to get a leopard gecko some time soon so are about to start setting up a tank for him/her. Currently have two options a 28litre aquaone splish splash tank or a plastic bin (floor area in bin is about 1 and 1/2 that of the tank) will probably be getting a young one so either should be ok for them to start off in, what I'm unsure about is best way to use the heat pad or heat tape with a plastic bottom tank. I've had a bearded dragon for 2+ year now but he doesn't need a heat pad so have had know experience with them, would they get hot enough to melt the plastic? If ok I'm thinking of using tiles so should I place the pad under the plastic bottom or in the tank under the tile?ing Will be buying one to experiment with on the weekend, any recommendations or ones to avoid.

Mine has taken blood worm and mealworm beetles (I put the live beetle in on his back legs flailing) never seen him eat yet just the food disappears

thanks for the replys, found the article on PFK and some other stuff through google. Seems it's natural for them as agro lil buggers, small group and they may target other fish, large group and they are busy targeting each other sorting out pecking order. So just have to hope none die from their bites and they sort themselves out. I have actually seen them bite each other now so know it's not other fish.

I've got a 300litre community tank which has 15 tiger barbs in it, they have been there for about 2 months and last week I noticed one had a hole or bite on it's side so I quarantined it for afew days and it was looking better. Yesterday I noticed atleast 3 now have the same bites and saw some being nipped at, they leave the other fish alone. Anyone know why this maybe happening I do have the temp higher than normal for tiger barb 30C as it's better for the other tankmates, Discus, blue Ram, fire eel, bristlenose & pearl gouriumi

Fire eel - Food how much and how often
knightmarc replied to knightmarc's topic in Rare and unusual fish
At 1st I found it amusing but now it's getting to be annoying, my eel bites and pulls on my fingers when I feed him raw pawn knocking pawn out of my hand and losing it to the other fish. May try long strips instead of small chunks and see if that helps being able to hold them out front rather than in my hand. -

Yeah I stopped adding it after acouple of days and he's still super keen, so keen he's grabbed my finger afew times at feeding. I only used it cause he had already shown no interest in beef heart and thought it might help get him onto pawn. -

Just tried Raw Pawn on my eel, went down a treat. I soaked it in garlic guard 1st which may have helped, still hand feeding and now he gets all his food not like with the blood worms where 1/2 would get stolen, now the other fish just nip my hand in protest. -
Henward, I got mine at Animates Henderson, they had 2 but that was over a month ago now
-
My fire eel is about 20cm and I'm hand feeding him 2 times a day on 3 cubes of blood worms each time, is that to much? On weekends he normally only gets one feeding and he's in a community tank so about 1/3 of food gets stolen.

I had a smallish marine tank for awhile and have a near full container of Nutrafin Max Marine granules left over, is this ok to feed to my freshwater tropical fish?
-
Got one though trademe about 1 year ago which needs replacing, is there anyone local which may stock them?
-
I have a pair of GBR and all my research on the net said temperature needs to be 26-30 C , I have my tank at 27.5 C

Fresh Water Shrimp Worth Money ???
knightmarc replied to Brackishtank lover's topic in New Zealand Natives
Theres a girl out west Auckland who sells them on trademe, normally $1 reserve so they go for what ever people will pay. -
So Stella are these a male and female Red Fin?

Should have my new Koura on Saturday but thinking maybe I should change gravel from pebbles to a fine gravel or sand as have noticed alot of waste falls in between the larger stuff. What substrate do others use with their Koura?
-
There were plenty of live shrimp in with him if he wanted a more meaty meal and yes he would come out and get the alge waffler. Will try the next guy with some food like you have said.
-
He was on his back and no movement for nearly 24hrs so I'm 100% sure he was dead. My tank is a 60 litre (600mm x 300mm x 300mm) with full lid and a aquaclear 110 filter with propeller modded to reduce flow. Shows most of the tank, have a large fake rock with caves in it, is this ok or should I get more natural rocks, also the plants are fake silk plants Here he is a week ago he liked the cave at the bottom the most This is post-mortem to give an idea of his size. His only tank mates are 20-30 fresh water shrimp which are still doing very well. I was testing the water and ammonia was up to 1.0 so I was doing daily water changes. Food wise he got algae waffers, peas and some sinking shrimp pellets I'd like pointers on anything I'm doing wrong to fix as I'm getting another, this time a smaller one from some one out West Auckland who has a pond full.
-
Well he is dead Will try again once I can get another, will try to get a smaller one this time as think he was full grown.
-
really? I thought as long as it was kept under 20 deg C, will have to look into a chiller then before I get another if he hasn't made it tomorrow.
-
Went in to work to do a water change and feed my koura in my tank there to find him upside down at the front of the tank, no reponse to picking him up but can see a small twitching of one of his legs when I put him back so wondering if he's starting a shed? Water should be ok as have a bunch of fresh water shrimp in there too and they all seem fine, so have done a large water change and left him where he was til tomorrow. Do people think he'll be alive or is he a goner, only had him 3 weeks after buying from HFF. Setup is a 60 litre long tank with aquaclear on the back, room has 24hr air-con and tank stays about 18.5 deg C

If the trademe seller your talking about is vvixen11 I picked up some from her on Sunday, I'm pretty sure shes breeding them in her pond as she offered adults, babies or a mix. Didn't see her setup as was waiting out front but she also has fresh water crays in her pond but silly me had bought one from HHF that morning. In the mix of shrimp I got afew of those cool blue ones with white stripes, will post up some pics of my cold water tank later.
