My new tank has one of these but it is super ugly and takes up a lot of room. Does anyone have one of these? Are they effective at removing waste from lower in the water column?

I'm actually looking at getting the bembas for my tank. Yellows and dems I've had together in the past, they're just not as exciting in my opinion.

Well I don't have the experience another troph colony to compare them to...but I don't remember them being particularly bad. Maybe had 1 or 2 losses from being picked on. No worse than the agro in my male peacock/hap tank

I'm leaning towards the tropheus. Had some bulu points in the past with no bloat issues, but i always fed them NLS exclusively and spirulina (i think) and had metronidazole on standby at all times, lol. May have to look onto a slightly longer tank then, this one's a 4ft. I loved how my peacock/hap tank looked though, but dont have the space to do this really well I think Does anyone run a wet/dry filter with their trophs?

I'm looking at a 300L ex-marine tank, so it has an overflow and sump. I'm just trying to work out if I can DIY a trickle filter for it.

Well I'm getting rid of my marine tank to get back into african cichlids :happy2: I cant decide whether to go back to an all male peacock tank with a few electric yellows, or a tropheus colony with a few other smaller tangs. What would you choose...

I used gutter guard, I sewed the strips together with fishing line.

I should have a bit of live rock you can steal. It's still gonna take a good month or two to cycle the rest of the rock.

Thats an awesome wee tank, and a great price too! I've never seen them before. I've been looking at making a tank like that with a false wall, only bigger. -Lighting is a little low, you might be able to get away with mushies. I have 36wats in my 34L and I only just get away with that for my zoanthids. -BB Is definately easier, the amount of crap that collects on the bottom of my nano is annoying, and that was just live rock and corals! I have to siphon 2 x week. -I change 30% a week, no skimmer, and I have 1 fish now. I would wait until your rock is well cycled though before adding the fish. -The more surface movement the better -Stay away from sponges, they will only bump up your nitrates. Let your rock do the work, though a little filter wool can be handy, and maybe phoszorb. Haven't tried it myself, I used the stuff Green-X that is now sold by fluval, but didn't really notice much difference. HTH

I have a ar380, very similar size. Just have a small pump for flow, live rock and large water changes weekly. If you are going to use the stock filter, just use filter wool and carbon - otherwise you'll find that extra biomedia will up the nitrates.

I have added one of those blue flexistrips in my AR380 for night lights, thats all they're good for really. I also took out the stock 11w PL bulb and wired up 2 x 18w PLs, its a tight fit but it does the job.

I bought some lotus seeds on ebay a few years ago, The pink and white one (Nelumbo nucifera) were let through by MAF but the yellow (Nelumbo Lutea) american ones were not as it is banned (I did not know that at the time, honestly!) All germinated after scoring the outer case and leaving in water

I'm planning to do the same with my 380, but my main issue is the lighting. Are you buying a readymade LED unit or are you going to DIY?

The pH was probably closer to 9 soon after I put it in so nothing too extreme. the concrete has a few dings in it where I've hit it when putting rocks in the tank, but it hasn't ever flaked off or anything.

If your going to put in africans just concrete will be fine, and much cheaper too. I left my concrete backgrond in the bath for a week changing the water everyday just in case it leached any nasties. 1 year on the ph in that tank is around 8.5 and they are happy as.

I have a trio, they just eat blood worms, occasionally snails if I can find some. They are great to watch. Has anyone tried worming theirs? I have issue with a very skinny male who eat well.

That's awesome! I missed out on my 4D scan cos I was already 30 weeks, nobody told me you had to to it before then My friend was part of a study where she got regular 4D scans for free! One of her scans showed baby with her hand over her face with just the middle finger sticking up, classic!
