Skinks -what do people make of these marks?
Freakz Nz replied to Insect Direct's topic in Reptiles and Amphibians
Thats not Selma in the pic is it? -
BT's are really nosy and love to look at what is going on outside, they love conservatories, heaps of glass and heat (of course) ... snails are a real favorite too.

Freakz Nz replied to tiny789's topic in Reptiles and Amphibians
My First BD was Munch and the second Delilah which turned out to be a male so we call him either Delilah or Del Boy... Our BT's we brought as a pair so we called the Pattie and Selma after the sisters on the Simpson's, however one was a male the other female. Heidy has Pattie and Matt has Selema. -
What sort of tadpoles are these?
Freakz Nz replied to axolotl-danio's topic in Reptiles and Amphibians
lol - attack of the moster tadpoles !!!! I think he meant 50mm (5cm) not 50cm, as a taddy that size could take on a cat & win he he : ] -
He came out about 2/3 weeks ago. Eating alot of veg and active, hasn't shed for ages
-
Yeah, He is going real good. His favorite thing at the moment is to have a starring contest with the cat - he always wins ha ha.

Del is a rep-teen, just over 12mths ... I think Doza,Tequila and maybe Calypso are his clutch mates ? I gather the clover and dandilion greens from outside & will eat any bug. Here are a few pics of him ...
-
They can be picky eaters at different times of the year. I have learnt that bugs are good, the more they wiggle the better .... crickets are a staple and mealworms are a treat, cicadas also go down well. On the veg front, dandilion greens and flowers, plus green beans are a fav. I dust 3 times a week.

Any Herp / Reptile Vets in Wellington ???
Freakz Nz replied to Freakz Nz's topic in Reptiles and Amphibians
Hi all, Thank you for your words and thoughts ... Munch is now buried in our garden with Tegal our canary who died several years ago and honey bunny. We are really missing him, we didn't realise how much we enjoyed him while he was with us. The saying is " Hopeless is the owner of a sick goldfish" however I think this can be extended to reptiles too. Delilah hasn't noted any change and is currently basking on his / her log. Anyway, I think I will open a bottle tonight for Munch and look at the photos we took of him over the year. Cheers Freakz & fam -

Any Herp / Reptile Vets in Wellington ???
Freakz Nz replied to Freakz Nz's topic in Reptiles and Amphibians
Hi Livingart , I thought about that when I did the initial construction of the enclosure. When cutting the fake grass I found that it frayed and bits came off. So I meticuously went around the entire dege making sure no more could fall out or be pulled out by a dragon thinking that it was something that it could eat (Plastics ingested in animals equals a bad thing) I used a lighter to "seal" the edges. Munch has eaten lettuce , carrot and tomato today so I'm happy that he must of got over it and hopefully wont see a repeat - fingers crossed. Just wish that the little bugg'er would put more weight on -
Any Herp / Reptile Vets in Wellington ???

Hi, Munch this morning was out on his basking rock and looked fine, I think it may of been an obstruction of the air way or throat. Another symptom was his tongue was a white / grey colour not his nomal faint pink, which I would also put down to oxygen levels or stress. Because of the weight issue with Munch, I monitor excatly what goes into the enclosure and what comes out of him. So I don't think that there was anything "dodgy" in there that he could of eaten to cause a reaction. His world is pretty sparse at the moment in that he only has 2 basking rocks, a cave, a food bowl and a log to climb and I use artifical grass for the base I have put carrot & lettuce (dusted) into his bowl - he is going to be basically a veggie with some pellets (softened) and watch his liquid intake. Talk about panic, it was the first time I have ever seen this in any lizard that we have had. My first thought was he had eaten something poisonious but ruled that out as Delilah gets the exact same diet and wasn't having any issues, and I know where the food has been before giving it to them (includes the washing of veggies and clover etc). The next was something stuck in his mouth, I opened it and couldn't see anything obvious. I then ran some warm water and wiped the slime / froth out of his mouth and face (this is when I smelt it and it was odourless), the next thing was to pump some water into him for two reasons the first being to clear his throat if something was in there further down and the second was to dilute the possibility of any substance causing the reaction. Anyway, He is looking his normal self this morning and I will monitor his activities and food intake. Cheers -
Any Herp / Reptile Vets in Wellington ???

Hi all, Just got back from the vets. Munch hasn't been eating over the last 3 days , so I have been force feeding him again, even off his favorites. He hasn't put on any weight to speak of, he currently weighs 108 grams while the other is now over 200grams. Tonight while we were having dinner i noticed Munch mega stressed out , he had come out of his cave and was fully yellow with a mega black beard and tail, he was aslo producing a froth / slime from his mouth. The froth/slime was like a watery snail slime, clear in colour and didn't smell. I wiped it away and gave him water via a syringe. He was quite cold and stiff and his eyes weren't right (colour and size), rang the vet and went down. Typical - when I got there he was relaxed and looked perky. We are still not going to use antibiotics and still concentrating on food and habitat. Weird because Delilah is doing awesomely in the same environment. Munch is asleep at the moment and the temp is 25 deg cel, he looks okay. Anyone else had a dragon that has ever frothed ? -

Any Herp / Reptile Vets in Wellington ???
Freakz Nz replied to Freakz Nz's topic in Reptiles and Amphibians
Yeah, we are half way through the "try it for a month and see" phase., that I talked about with the vet Since the seperation he has put on some weight, isn't head bobbing at all and doesnt blacken his beard half as much as he used to. So I think he is way less stressed than he was. His breathing is appearing to get better as well, the squeak on the exhale is definitley quieter and doesn't seem as laboured. It is funny how he loves his greens but won't touch a cricket ... gggrrrr -

Any Herp / Reptile Vets in Wellington ???
Freakz Nz replied to Freakz Nz's topic in Reptiles and Amphibians
Munch is still very active and his enclosure is a few deg hotter than norm .... 40 deg c and 23 at night , but he is not eating any real food, stilll just grazing at greens. So i have started to force feed him high protien pellets, which is getting easier and i think he is starting to like them. I'm using the Fluker Bd food to try to get his vitamins up to, the dusted greens i was offering weren't getting wholly eaten, so at least with this method i know he is actually getting minerals etc. I will weigh him again tomorrow. Horse on the other hand is going great guns. -
Any Herp / Reptile Vets in Wellington ???
Freakz Nz replied to Freakz Nz's topic in Reptiles and Amphibians
Yeah, good things take time ... Munch has access to a variety of food, but at the moment doesn't seem to fussed about eating. He will have a nibble and then go back to basking. He does waste alot of food in that I offer it and it dries out over the course of the day, with about half uneaten. This includes his fav's clover and dandilion greens. I just hate to see his stomach flat, instead of low hung and bulgy ! He is still pooping and getting fluids through him as there is uric acid present, but I have included some lettuce in his diet to clean him out. Man if you want to see an amazing trick feed lettuce to a BD, be prepared for the clean up though .... squirts more than a rainbow lorriket ! -
Any Herp / Reptile Vets in Wellington ???

Hi Matt, I have 2 12vdc 120mm computer fans at the cold end of the enclosure running at 7.5volts, just enough to stop everything heating up at the top. The 20 deg cel for night is measured at the bottom. I am going to cut out the mealworms and go to lots of veg and crickets, see how it goes ... mean while Horse cant get enough of everything.... it is like a waste disposal. lol -
Any Herp / Reptile Vets in Wellington ???
Freakz Nz replied to Freakz Nz's topic in Reptiles and Amphibians
Still abit worried about Munch, he is still at 94/96 grams. I have up'ed the temp to 40deg C on the hot side with a coolside of 30deg C and at night it doesnt get below 20. His breathing is getting better in that I can only hear a faint squeak now. The main thing I'm concentrating on is getting food into him, the little beggar still isn't eating crickets, so I'm offering variety of vege and mealworms, but only 10 a day max and dried BD pellets Does anyone have any ideas on some high calorie food that can be given to a BD ? Cheers
