  1. Both males and females have died, tank contains 3-4 bristle, some neon tetras. Majority have passed away now, neon tetras seemed have to have lost a lot of their colour, saw some of the guppies have a little degeneration on their tale, it might have been too late now
  2. Just had a look at the water, it could have been slightly warmer than usual (28-30 degrees), could that have been it? activity of the surviving guppies is that they are grouped and only staying at the surface of the tank.
  3. Hey guys, been on the forums a little now, and have learnt many awesome things. But recently, i am boggled at my guppy tank. They have been fine for the last couple of months, large numbers good activity etc, but in the last day 6~ died, and i am confused at what it could be? A 30% water change was done in the last day, and not sure if it could be that, we have a filter running. The tank contains neon tetra's, guppies and 3-5 bristlenose. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks for reading.

    joke

haha, i love it! very nice joke even better that it was animals lol.
  5. Cheers for that, can certainly do those kind of meals. We are feeding bloodworms and and tetra bits. will definately try the above, thanks so much has been learnt today.
  6. Thank you for this, i will be stepping up the water changes. I won't put the baby baby discus in the bigger tank yet. Thanks for this info feel free to let me know more!
  7. Yea i saw that, it would just mean one side wouldn't have the lid on. Not to bad i guess, if not, i could remove the WHOLE top long part of the filter
  8. Cheers for that, im assuming its 20.85 per tube? I would have to look at a) either doing some modification to make it look more aestheically pleasing or b) pull out the stock filter and plug the tubes through some of the holes (i think they left for us incase we wanted a filter, except, the tubes would just stick out and look out of place).
  9. Thanks for that. I will definately have to think things through. Would hate to have to sell them
  10. thanks for that, i will definately check up on it, just not sure if the tubing will fit where i want it too. do you know the diameter of the tubing/
  11. Thanks for that, well put. Definately will be on the lookout for a bigger thak (should i be looking for a wider or a taller tank?) Not too lazy so willing to put in the work. Please tell me more!
  12. Thanks! I look to be moving them to the Larger ar850 tank soon. Just wanting to make sure all the bacteria etc are in place ready to go. Still undecided on the canister filter. (got the tank on Saturday, set up cleaned etc (was a 2nd hand tank, didn't clean the bacteria in the filter)). I wll definately have some more questions regarding Discus, just want to make sure they are safe etc.
  13. Thanks again cichlid7, you're the best! Yeah i have seen the CF1000 for 133~, but that excls shipping, so total would equal close to what the shop sells which is sorta down the road. And that Aqua One being best value for money. Currently, i have sights set on the Eheim Classic 2213 @ $171. Is it a modular filter system? Will have to do some research on whether the tubing will fit in the small gap, i should take a picture and post it.
  14. Currently, the discus are in a smaller tank (a temp tank till we got this new one thats currently unihabited - but set up- and waiting for it to be stabilised a bit). We do water changes from 20-30% every 2 to 3 days. We leave the water over night with a heater and some Stress coat. how often would you advice for water changes in the larger tank? say 8 discus (smallish size 6x 3-6cm, 2x <2.5cm) and maybe 20 neon tetras. We have some catfish (not sure what breed to behonest, i think small baby pleco/bristlenose around 5cm from head to tail, and one larger bristlenose 7-8cm). Should those be put with the discus? Heard they like to attach on the discus. Tank is 59cm High.
  15. Thank you so much for your reply excellent advice Thats correct! the AR 850 is 165L (or 155L) - man your good. We have put in some plants, the discus right now are relatively small, maybe 3-5cm excl tail (2 baby discus maybe 2cm). I am still debating whether to put in the neons (they are in another tank at the moment with some guppies lol). Not sure if it will crowd the AR850 tank and increase waste etc. But keen on putting them in there to make the Discus feel more safe. But yeah, i am looking for a better filter (just not really trusting the top filter that comes with the tank) -hope someone can prove me wrong.
  16. I am looking at getting an external Canister filter, i have tried searching on which is good, and have not really had any good info besides where they are made. At the moment i am deciding between the CF-1000 Aqua One, Crystal Flo 60, Ehiem Classic 2213. These are all within my budget of <$200 bought new at Hollywood Fish Farm. anyone know a ranking of brands? These are for the tank Aqua One AR-850, still not sure as to whether they will fit given the small hole at the bottom left of the top filter.
  17. Hey guys, im new to the forum! i have had a read around and love it! I just have a few questions! I am wanting to put an external canister filter, but heres where the problems start. 1- which one can i use? there is only a small gap on the left side of the filter box (i think it is for cables) and not sure which filters will have the correct sized tubing to go inside (would like to keep the top lid fully inplace eg light and top filter box). I have been told the Eheim Classic 2213 model will fit as it has 12mm tubing. 2- I understand that Neon Tetras are good with Discus, will they survive in the higher temperature waters? 28-30 deg C. Any other tips you can give to me? I am very dedicated to my fish and will do whats best for them!
