  1. Yeah iv been looking up lists of flowers and other things for mine to eat when i get it. I also looked up what house plants are poisonous but i couldnt find a good one. Do you guys know?
  2. thats so cute that they eat bugs, would they eat preying mantises (sorry about the spelling)? cause i have lots of them in my garden! experimentation with custard powder? . . . interesting lolz
  3. i do know what they eat, it just seems that if we screamed while having powder in our mouths it would all poof out lolz
  4. silly birdies, they'd loose their food  wouldnt they?
  5. yeah iv noticed the videos, we have been looking for ages but my favourite one of a lorikeet saying "thanks" for kisses and saying "yum" got removed
  6. Yeah it is a very trusting bird and so cute but he is like $100 and something more than the one im getting. Mines only going to cost $275 I believe there is no such thing as a "problem" animal just uneducated owners. Oh just thinking of the rehoming thing, do we have a bird rspca type place? before i put the down payment on mine i was thinking of getting a preloved lorikeet but i know that the chch rspca doesnt take birds (or are very against taking them) and i couldnt find a bird rehoming center.
  7. That is a gorgeous bird phoenix44!!!! I hope mine is that nice to other animals.
  8. Yes i played with that one too and it is a lovely bird, it even let me snuggle it upside down and rub its tummy. But we have put a deposit on one coming into papanui pets in 3 weeks and the lorikeet that Bubble and Squeek had last week wasnt as nice and now we cant get our money back. Otherwise we would be getting that one.
  9. Im getting a rainbow one, those are they ones we always play with and if i have to move to a flat that doesn't allow birds then mum will take it cause she loves the rainbows. I haven't been able to find any other kinds in chch pet stores and i tried to google breeders in chch and found none (maybe i just suck at searching but i cant find them!). I have also been wondering about my cats. They are very curious and might try to "play" with him. Do you have a cat? Is it ok?
  10. thank you so much! yeah we didnt really trust that pulling on the feathers thing it kind of shocked me! and yes we are getting a young bird, the reason were waiting is so we can get it as soon as its old enough to sell. once again thanks and i will definately post again if i need anymore help
  11. hi, im getting my first lorikeet in 3 weeks now. im so happy! :bounce: i have been going round all the pet shops in chch and playing with the lorikeets they have, so far they all seem nice but one bit me really hard! i was wanting to know how you can train them to not bite (the nice way) one man told me to growl "no" and another lady said to pull on their back neck feathers but to me these seem mean and i dont really want to do them. is there anyone out there with some nice ways for me?
  12. All of the food i am feeding them is smaller than their heads, the frogs are about 2-2.5cm long. Thank you so much for all your advice! I will try them and see how it goes. Hopefully they will gain some weight soon, i like my frogs fat!
  13. I never said that i worried it would break with a current just that i havent tried it. Im not gentle with my tanks and none of them have ever broken from anything but dropping the tank or dropping something in it. Mod = Warren: Snarky comment removed, consider yourself lucky no warning was issued
  14. Oh albinos? Are you planning to breed or if you already had, are you going to sell? i really want some!
  15. All of mine have been strong enough. No splits except the usual cracks in the bottom from dropping rocks lol. Mind you i never have a current in my tanks so there is only the pressure from the weight
  16. so there is really nothing i can do? yeah my tree frogs love the sprey thing too, they are great (double chinned and all) its just these damn bells. does anyone know if they will starve themselves?
  17. It would probably cost more than that for me to make it, sorry. Im not a business i just make my own tanks when i need one, i get window glass cut to the measuements i need and then just seal it together with selleys all clear. the tanks come out looking exactly how you want it to look. i have made all my frog and fish tanks before now. if your looking to save money you could call up the glass places and D.I.Y the job.
  18. They have been tail-free frogs for about 3ish weeks and my previous frogs had started eating by this age, but these ones just wont. I put alot of fruitfly and housefly in there (each day) and the frogs are still really skinny. There are as many dead flies each day as i put in the day before, what do i do!? :-?
  19. how much is it going to cost to make it? depending on the price i might be able to make it for you cheaper.
  20. Kairaki beach (waimak mouth) has wood that looks like that, takes a bit of hunting for it but youl find some like that
  21. usually the male frog is the one on top lol. if they mate the same as golden bells then the male simply holds onto the females waist and waits for her to lay so he can fertilise them. some males hold on for days and you cant seperate them, even when in the wild you can catch them and transport them and they still wont let go, iv seen it! hope this helps
  22. sorry the frogs have found a home. I have some golden bell tads that are free to a good home, if anyone is interested just ask. sorry not willing to post, just pick up (im in chch). (the tads are starting to freak me out lol )
  23. is there potting mix in the water? or in exposed areas of the terrain? the chemicals in this can kill them.
  24. has anyone in chch got some albino bells that they would be willing to sell?(real ones of course, not bleeched or poisoned) or even albino tads? thanks :bounce:
