  1. sure they arent starving from lack of things to eat, you say the one you have is shrinking, that sounds alot like starvation.
  2. just note, its a dolphin, old pic been discussed on many surfing forums and all have come up with it being a dolphin.
  3. rare white anemone? not too many anemones are white in nature thats why i thought it, and if its re-gaining its zoox then that proves it was bleached. alot of the anemones coming into your country would be bleached because of your quarantine process wouldnt they? id put money on that being bleached though
  4. that anemone looks rather bleached brian, where did you get it from?
  5. green chromis sell for $9 each at the store down the road.
  6. i thought it was the other way around?? but even so i would get a few good books, better to have on hand for coral ID and better having a hard copy than having to be on the computer all the time.
  7. your not letting it get to your head though are you?

    cyano

sounds like a decent theory to me, and all the examples i can think of support it. although they have cyano problems in the US and nearly all of them use ASW? im guessing the cyano comes in the water? or does the water promote its growth? only way to find out i guess is find someone who went from NSW to ASW
  9. mmmm rum. fish will be happy the first few changes then hehe
  10. not my tank so no offence taken. yep its a corner tank! its damo's tank from rtaw and just a tank i like due to the colours he gets from his acros. he owns a lighting company so the amount of algae probably has some thing to do with the 1000W MHs above it judging by the acro colours id say nutrients are pretty low! from memory he uses collected water, which again supports the nsw vs asw theory. i dont think having the reef on our doorstep makes a heap of difference apart from lower prices on fish etc. which seems to make some peope comlacent (ie. its ok if it dies, just buy another one) which is a mind-set that pisses me off! weatherson tank is amazing, his DIY is 100x more professional than store bought gear. the pride he has in his diy is great!
  11. nuh they are all shitty like this one:
  12. well there is when you put in the exchange rate. $70+difference is a fair bit IMO
  13. yellow tangs are about $110 here and flames about $90, what are they there? my bi-colour cost me $15.40  and that was full retail price.
  14. in aus we get the nice acros from ningaloo reef and parts of the great barrier reef
  15. by uncured i meant straight from the ocean. dont put it all in at once, go half in and let the filtering bacteria develop from the stuff that dies off so that when you put the second half in you get most of the 'stuff' on your rock living. if you dump it all in at once you will get a huge ammonia spike and alot of the squirts, sponges and other life on the rock will die-off. you dont need to spend $4500 on a skimmer, thats just silly, what size is your tank? look at http://www.reefonline.com.au for some quality skimmers, i think you'll find most of them are alot lest than what reefs will reccomend you spend he just likes scaring newbies
  16. your in QLD? then get uncured rock and do it half at a time, get more life on your rock that way and its wat pretty much everyone does. best bet is to put the sand in and let that build up a small amount of bacteria which will reduce die-off even further.

    Biovit

sure you havent been inhaling a few too many of those cleaning products?

    Biovit

before you yourself be a sarcastic bastard what i meant was that you said its meant for saltwater AND freshwater, i dont see how the two can need the same vitamins etc.

    Biovit

for freshwater or saltwater? i wouldnt use it, how can the needs of a complex reef tank be the same as a guppy tank?
  20. sounds to me like the LFS told him it needs a larger tank but he said hed try it anyway. just a note, its not all the LFS fault, its not up to them to refuse service, people have to do research before they buy anything, blaming the LFS for this guy being too lazy to research his own fish doesnt seem right to me. of course better LFS will help customers more than others, but it shouldnt be up to them to 'baby' their customers. /rant
  21. what size tank do you have? shouldnt you have found the information BEFORE you bought it. always makes me shake my head when people research fish after they got them.
  22. from what i can gather though hes saying this design will add more phosphates than other reactors? if hes talking about types of media... mine has no media in it, as its not in use and hasnt been yet.
  23. i dont have it up and running right now, waiting on a re-circ pump. but what makes you think it would be adding phosphates?
  24. its also a FO tank and not a reef, organics dont matter as much
