  1. yeah im just using a 2 foot tank. going to make my own air run skimmer, its just going to be a cheap setup. from reading this thread i think i can set it up quite cheaply, but when it comes time to actually do it i bet i'll be on here asking you guys questions! and i have a new digital camera so yes i'll make sure to get some pictures once i find enough critters to put in there. any tips on actually finding stuff to put in there? because i have a feeling that might be the hard part.
  2. yay, just found out im moving to a house walking distance from the beach! so the tank that i have half-made right now will be a coldwater marine! cant wait to go search all the rockpools.
  3. yeah i read that earlier, one positive that has come out of this is discovering the information that i have! so come next weeks paycheck i'll be making a trip to the glazer and getting some glass to make my first tank. what is a good starting size to make? i was thinking a 2' or 3', or should i aim smaller at first?
  4. haha alan, well thanks for still talking to me! i think i might find a cheap piece of glass and cut and silicon it in. i want to learn to build my own aquariums so i will need to get the tools anyway, and this will be a good way to learn. thanks guys n gals.
  5. oh! well i wish i was in new zealand, but unfortunatly all the way over in western australia so i'll have to replace the glass then? i might ring up a glass place in my lunchbreak and get some prices. is it very hard to do?
  6. i woke up at 3.30 this morning to a loud CRACK! it was my 60x30x30 after clening up and emptying the damage is a 25cm crack in the back glass running from the top at a 45 degree angle. now my question is how to salvage this tank. i dont have much money so the cheaper the better! can i just use aquarium silicon on the crack or do i have to remove the back panel and get a new piece of glass fitted and silicon it in? thanks for your help p.s. thank god there were no fish in there, i was just cycling the tank, fish were due to be put in this afternoon!
  7. how much did it cost chris? yeah thats what i was thinking, have a red light inside a cave, that way it wouldnt bother them because its red, is that right?
  8. anyone tried this? i know its not really anything like the fishes natural environment but i have some ideas id like to try. so has anyone experimented with lighting underwater and did it cost much and was it hard to set up?
  9. that sounds like a community tank i'd like; clown loaches, discus and tetra. i like the elegant look of the discus aswell as their colours. i might look into that. im moving into a new house in 2 weeks so i wont be setting it up until then so i will have plenty of time to research!
  10. Thanks guys! you'll hear from me again im sure!
  11. thanks. i was origionally thinking of adding a school of congo tetra in with them but the guy at the pet shop down the road said the clowns would give them grief, but i've since talked to a guy at a very reputable aquarium shop and he said they should be fine, and he seemed to know what he was talking about. sorry i didnt introduce myself, im from over in western australia, but this is the best online fish forum ive seen, so thought id invade your countries forum! im pretty new to keeping aquariums and only have one other aquarium, a planted 20g with a school of cardinal tetra and a few tiger barbs. also would it be worth setting up a brine shrimp hatchery to feed my tetra and eventually my clown loach and whatever else i choose to put in with it or just buy frozen foods?
  12. Hi i have a 45 gallon (~170L) tank, i plan on keeping clown loaches, and am looking for another type of fish to share the tank with it. what type of fish would you reccomend? i want a schooling fish. maybe silver sharks? also how many of them would you put in with 4 loaches considering how large the clown loaches grow? any other tips for keeping the clowns? i heard you should put the other type of fish in first and only put the clowns in once the tank is established? thanks alot jack
