Anyone know if the clay kitty litter would be ok for leopard geckos?
Kitty litter is for cats to shit in and it dries up moisture ... if you use it for your leopards that you are meant to be keeping wet so that they can shed what do YOU think will happen ... THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE DOING

I need some advice on setting up something to breed crickets in, I think I will have a batch of baby bt's in a while and need to get preparations under way. There is plenty of information on the internet about breeding crickets overseas, but I wonder if the black fellows we have here are handled in the same way?.
You should be feeding your baby blues boiled eggs ,Bananas and diced cat food .. that is what I am feeding mine at the moment

how long ago was that reptilenutt?
they were only declared an unwanted organism recently i think. No longer can keep/get a permit was my understanding.....

I was going to get rainbow skinks of Trade me once and ask and here is the email I got back ...
Further to your query about Rainbow Skinks and permits last night.
I have asked DOC and MAF's resident herpetologist and this is what they have got back to me with:
"Anyone wanting to hold rainbow skinks requires a permit from DOC, under the Wildlife Act.
It is illegal for anyone to hold ‘absolutely protected’ wildlife without the permission of our Director-General. While I appreciate that it is somewhat odd that rainbow skinks (a known pest) is absolutely protected, this is the law as it currently stands – and this is something I am addressing with MAFBNZ as we speak. Until that resolution comes though, anyone wanting to do anything with rainbow skinks needs a permit from DOC.
To apply for the permit, the person should contact the relevant conservancy – in this case, East Coast/Bay of Plenty (ph: 07 349 7400, to call reception).
You are right on your interpretation on the release of rainbow skinks. It is illegal under the Wildlife Act to liberate any wildlife (without permission), this includes rainbow skinks."
So I was not correct in my interpretation: you do need a permit to keep them even though they are a pest species. This may change it seems, but as the law stands now, a permit is needed.

if you have slide door then I would start looking in the room ..
I learned very quick on how easy then can get out between the glass plates
And had to but some tape up the gap ...
I got my first young one awhile ago and the both got out ...
Found one the same day and put back in but did not find the second one for 4 day
Still alive but did not make it ..

very easy to tell with leopards ... they get like a fungus growing on the eggs after 3 days and if fertile you can see the red spot within 2 days ....

I use vermiculite ... use the scales .. put the container on and make it say
zero of the scales ..but the vermiculite in say up to 50g then x that by .666.
so 50g x .66 =33.3 .. Add this much water so all up it weigh 83.3 g.. give it a stir
Put the eggs and close the lid ..

So what was the court decision?
First time he got 10,ooo so I was told ..he then try again and they still did not turn up and got the same..
Never heared anything after that and the person has now past away ..

Didn't someone get some expensive macaws taken of them and they died in the care of Maf. I understand they went for replacement but I don't know what the result was.
There were a lot of people that had there macaws taken from them and most got them back ..but some were not in the same state there were when taken .. One peson I do know of toke them to court and they did not show ....

They don't breed or hatch well unless you keep the temperature up.
YES I do the same the light and heater are on a thermostat and turn of and on all the time
but the dep is always about the 29-30 mark and do well

If you use a 150 w heat bulb with a thermostat with it .... it will turn of and on when needed ..

The bearded dragon at a young age eats mostly insects very little green .As it gets older this changes to mostly greens but still love it's insects to .
You will need a UVB bulb for your bearded right from a early age to make up the lack of sunlight .
Beards do well outside and love the room .. sleeping in winter and wakening to start a new .
I find mine sleep about 1 to 2 mouths ...
A leopard eats insects and only insects will not need a UVB bulb but will need a powder that it eats all the time
This is what gives it the calcium that it needs to grow right.
They are night animals and spend most the day asleep if left alone ..
Cannot be kept out side like the bigger reptiles ..
Mine being in a room and kept warm all the time ...
This is just part of what is different .
