  1. Look at your power bill and find out how much your provider charges per kilowatt hour (kWh). Divide the number of watts being used (in this case 50) by 1000, then multiply it by the number of hours per day it is running. so 0.050 * 24 * $___ = .............
  2. Some of them are beautiful! http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forum ... p?t=166295 I can dream. *sigh*
  3. They are just line-bred gold severums. Dixon here's some definitions; http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forum ... hp?t=38534 Albino = lacking pigment, ie all of it. If it were lacking all pigment except for red it would be Erythristic.
  4. No I was just being cheeky, would be nice though.
  5. Albino with red pigment all over them??? Nice fish bulldog!!
  6. Don't forget about madagascan and non-rift-lake Africans that require water more similar to south americans. Is better to research individual species than make judgements based on which continent they come from.
  7. I've seen some pretty big angels, they need a deep tank too. I'd be reluctant to suggest them for anything smaller than a 3'long by 18" tall tank.
  8. On this topic, is anyone here breeding reeves???

  10. MJ; I appreciate your point (and believe me, this forum is very polite in terms of flaming...), but what I am suggesting instead of making a post saying "what cichlids can I keep together" is doing some research and then making a post saying "I'm interested in keeping lionheads and kribs in my 180L 3' tank, from what I've read they would seem to be compatible, do you think it will work?". The forum exists for people to share opinions and experiences, and to help people learn. It shouldn't be used as a substitute for reading and research though, otherwise the older more knowledgeable member get sick of answering the same old questions and just don't bother.
  11. I did have a huge big reply typed out, but my computer crashed and I lost it... Cookieskennels; go buy a few good fish books, do some reading and research, and most importantly learn to use Google. There is a wealth of information out there just waiting to be discovered, far more than was ever available to me when I started keeping fish, back when we didn't even have the internet at home. I could rattle off different combinations of fish that you could keep together, but without knowing why then you're not going to learn anything and are just going to continue making mistakes and asking silly questions. I am a firm believer that knowing something is pretty pointless unless you know the reasoning behind it, and this is a great example of that. In another of your threads you asked "what is a Ctenopoma?" after I suggested it. Try typing Ctenopoma into Google and have a read of the first three websites that come up. Don't take this the wrong way, I'm not trying to put you down, I just think that you have a lot of learning to do and that you should be responsible for that rather than expecting everyone to serve you information on a plate...
  12. Have they arrived at HFF? They were telling me about them the other day, I've never heard of them before. Just did a quick Google, they look like a selectively bred yellow sev with exceptional red colouring. They're pretty cool!!
  13. There are still cichlids on the list under the genus Cichlasoma, which was split up some time ago. It is still referring to the same species though, even if the name is different, so one would assume that is not a problem. However, when dealing with bureaucrats anything could be a problem...
  14. We can't import parrots, does that mean we can't export them? :-?
  15. It means you've got one dominant one and two submissive ones, possibly. Females will have orange bellies, and are smaller and don't get a nuchal hump.l
  16. Convicts will grow quickly, and can pack a punch even when tiny. And yup, in the general scheme of things, considering some of the fish you've listed that is a small tank. There's nothing wrong with that, you just need to do some research about the fish you want to keep and be realistic about what will live happily in a tank that size. You'd feel really stink if he got whitespot and died from being stressed out by being alone then eh. Clown loaches are possibly one of the most mis-treated fish in the hobby IMO. They grow large (and a lot faster than most people think) and need to be kept in groups of 5+. I have 8 in my 4' tank around 12-16cm (soon moving into the 5') and I'd never consider keeping them in a smaller group than that, or in a smaller tank. Unless you're planning on a big tank (5' minimum IMO) then clowns arent for you...
  17. Just stumbled across this gem, Nicky at her finest...
  18. So when was the last permitted update? Am I correct in thinking that just because its not on the list that doesn't mean you're not allowed to keep it if its here already, it just means it cannot be imported?
  19. Don't worry, there's plenty of others, just maybe not in Cambridge. You might have to go all the way to the big smoke (Hamilton) to find another!
  20. The convicts will probably breed and then destroy everything else in the tank. And if you end up with all males they are still too aggressive to be kept with the rest of those fish in a small tank. The gourami's could be anything that grows from 5cm to 50cm, do you have a species name, or can you describe what they look like? The clown loach(es?) need to be kept in groups of 5 and will probably end up stunted if they're kept in that tank too long. I'd suggest getting rid of the bolivian rams and just keeping the lionheads. You could probably make quite a nice little african river tank with the lionheads, kribs, congo tetras and maybe a ctenopoma.
  21. No hassle, just trying to help. Its hard to recommend fish when all you know about the tank is the volume. :-? So its 2' long, what are the other dimensions? The most important think when keeping multiple cichlids is the footprint of the tank. I'm still reluctant to recommend species and quantity because if your tank is 2' long, 12" wide and 20" tall then its going to be different to if it were 2' long, 20" wide and 12" tall. Either way its not going to be big enough for angels long-term.
  22. When was the last update? And how comprehensive was the list?

    Intro

What are the dimensions of the tank? Planted community + larger cichlids usually = no more plants (or community!).
  24. I love them too, so under-rated IMO. If I had a fishroom and a million tanks I'd be trying to selectively/line breed the biggest baddest male cons possible. My GF has a beautiful male pink con in a 2' tank, its 'her' fish and she's responsible for the tank. He's got beautiful fins and digs like mad, but I don't think he's quite hit puberty yet as he's still a bit of a wuss.
