The big tank thing shouldn't be a problem, unless you're on a wooden floor? And you might be surprised in the extra cost for the width as it may mean goin up a thickness in glass. Fully worth it IMO, wide tanks look awesome!

Good work!! IMO the SPCA should do more to prevent shops from selling things like turtles and arowanas to unsuspecting people with bad advice. Selling 2' tank "turtle set ups" is pretty poor IMO....

Have they arrived yet, or are you waiting to see if the L46's come in? I know if I had that sorta cash to blow on one or the other it would be a pretty hard decision! not trying to have a dig, just asking a genuine question!

Six of us, but with a lack of planning, a high stand and a confined space it nearly ended in tears. We didn't think about who was where when we lifted the tank and when the ones on the back moved around so we could lift it onto the stand we ended up with four strong guys on the front and two shorter and not-so-strong guys on the corners. The front went up but the back didn't, there was a lot of grunting and shouting, one guy was even underneath it lifting with his shoulder, and eventually we got it onto the stand. I don't mind helping if I'm free on the day, I'll hopefully need some big-tank-lifting credits in the not too distant future... 8)

lol so much speculation!! I'll put $5 on there being a bunch of L46 imported now that they're on the list and in a few months time the bulk of them will still be sitting in shops because no one is willing to pay the price to get a group of them, except maybe for Mr Pleco. Oh, and Charlie......

Me too!! Although I'm one of the newbies jumping on the pleco bandwagon, although I do remember seeing L46 at HFF... PlanetCatfish says breeding is unreported, so there's a challenge for you Andrew!

Single axle will be fine if you're not going at open road speeds, IMO. Best way to do it is put on some beers and get a few otehr fishkeepers with experience in moving tanks to give you a hand. Henward would be a good one to ask given that he moved recently, and we nearly dropped his 1200L tank! :lol: *edit* are you old enough to buy beer? :oops:

A few others, like South American, Central America, Asian, Madagascan, and the hundreds of species from Africa that don't come from rift lakes that are so conveniently overlooked by the vast majority of people who for some silly reason refer to rift lake cichlids as "Africans"... I also read somewhere recently that "suckermouth catfish" now account for 3% of total vertebrate species on Earth! Given that most of them could be referred to as "pleco" your question of "can I keep cichlids with my pleco" is so impossibly vague that you may as well have asked "can I keep fish with my fish?".

they'll grow around an inch a month unless stunted, so you won't have long to upsize. Its not like they're rare, maybe wait til you get the big tank first?

Why limit to just south american? What about central american? African? Asian? Madagascan (I WISH!!)? Many people keep, breed and have an interest in all of them. I don't keep any, but I sure enjoy seeing tanks/fish like the ones Firenzenz posted, and I think its every bit as important to ensure the continued breeding of quality fish, regardless of their origins.

As I found with the wood I collected at Pauanio after the big flood late last year, its important to make sure none of it is rotting or it will quickly turn the water bad.
