  1. Hi, I've got the book "The interpet guide to tropical cichlids" It is listed in there. I will see if I can get a pic of the picture in the book and post it.
  2. It does have bracing 50mm front and back but also has 200mm not 50 at each end and another 200mm brace in the center (Broken). Thanks for your advice all I still can't decide wether to get this one or a new one.
  3. I Havn't gotthe tank yet and it is currently empty I would get it repaired before I even tried to move it I Think. The light which caused the problem was a 12 led moonlight light which was directly over the brace and within 2 cm. Whats Euro bracing Thanks
  4. I have just verbaly agreed to buy a nearly new 1800 x 600 x 600 tank. The only thing that seems to be wrong with it is the centre bracing has been cracked all the way through on the top. The owner said this happened because of a light directly on the glass heating it up etc. Would it be OK to silicone another piece below the broken bit and between the side bracing and then another below that overlapping onto the side bracing. Could there be other potential problems with the tank if it was left for a while with the brace broken... does glass weaken under pressure. Thanks Ian

    cichlids

Not too sure how your fish will be without filtered water. Don't feed em and perhaps change the water. I'd be worried about the bacteria in the filter tho you need to keep water moving through it to keep the bacteria alive.
  8. I am planning on keeping mbuna but may also keep 1 type of peacock in with them. I will not be setting up the tank til late sept as we are moving then so will not be ready to stock it until late october anyway. What sort do you breed and when do you think you will be up and running again.
  9. Can any one recomend any LFS's that have malawi cichlids in stock. I am from New Plymouth and can't find any around here but would be willing to travel Hamilton or wanganui to get some decent fish. I have contacted Holywood FF who said they would ship but I would rather take a look first. Thanks Ian
  10. Only the top 3 tanks are getting filtered water the rest are getting used water from the tanks above. I think all the overflows should go directly to the sump and each tank have its own feed from the sump. Just a bit of extra plumbing and perhaps some valves to get the same flow rate to each tank.
  11. Hi Caper, I will be keeping Malawi mbuna, I used to keep and breed them in the UK about 6 years ago. The tank will be 1800 x 500 x 500 but I will not be setting it up til october when I move house. Cheers Ian
  12. I made a background a couple of weeks ago and just used a hot air paint stripper to melt the poly into shape and also found a soldering iron quite good for cutting grouves into the back ground. I was thinking of coating it with pondpaint you can get a translucent one from mitre 10 would this be OK or would it need to be somthing tougher
  13. Hi just joined in new plymouth. I used to keep malawi mbuna a few years ago and I am setting up a new tank in a few months (once we have moved) I will be looking for some fish around september. Cheers Ian
