Also, how long can you take them out to handle before having to put them back in for heat? Or are they quite hardy to stay out for 1-2 hours?
-
After reading the bearded dragon care sheet maybe one of them would be alright. Now I can't decide Any suggestions? lol

Hey all, I have been thinking about getting a reptile for a while and found that baby blue tongues seem to be the cheapest (on trademe) and easiest to care for after reading some info. Im thinking about what sort of enclosure I want to get but am not too sure, so looking for some suggestions? I've seen them kept in a large glass fish tank with a mesh lid thing but was thinking of maybe getting a professional setup like an exo terra enclosure. Also, blue tongues need a UV light but not a heating lamp? Are these UV lights readily available? Photos of some of your enclosures may help me out

It will be insect proof, the lids don't allow any gaps. Was looking at green/golden bells but not too sure. suggestions?

Yea I was going to cover it up with mesh. I thought that because of the lights it might affect it. Seems to be ok so far, will give it a real good clean tomorrow to get all the algae off the sides. Yea it was on trademe, that was me  Decided to keep it, price was heading a little low for me

Im looking at converting my 260L aquarium into a large frog terrarium and was just wondering whether it would be appropriate. It is a fluval vicenza tank similar to this one: (Couldn't be bothered taking pictures of mine and then uploading them etc etc.... ) Anyway, im testing out my tank at the moment with some water in it and the lights on to see if it will get too much condensation on the front, thus making it harder to see. There is a little round cap that pops off the back cover for some ventilation as well.
-
Do you not need to dechlorinate the water? I would love to use something like this but have to use aqua plus on the tap water so I lug about 6-8 buckets from the laundry to the tank each time
-
I like Harlequin Rasboras. They are hardy (in my tank at least) and while they may not seem too colourful when there are only a few, once you put a large school of them in there it looks fantastic

Yoyo's are awesome. So playful and curious

No I didn't notice anything about my BN before I found him dead. Not sure whats up with the tetras, some of them is a bit white around its nose, I had some others with the same thing that died about 1 month or 2 ago as well
-
My big bristle nose died the other day. Probably a little over a year old, I came home to find him on the bottom with pretty much all his skin stripped off (thanks to other fish). Stink too he was the big and funky to look at. And now I think my lemon tetras have some sort of disease

Hi all, long time member, not much of a poster. Recently really getting back into fish keeping, has been an on off hobby over the recent years depending on study and work etc...Anyway, at the moment I have a peaceful 260L community tank (pics below) and will be buying another tank next year once I get a job after graduating. Here're the pics! (excuse blur/flashy images, can never seem to get a perfect picture of the tank): Flash Non flash Our siamese fighter. We have had him for a little over a year. Other fish in the tank are: Harlequin Rasbora Lemon Tetra Zebra/ Leopard Danios Guppies Golden Honey Gourami Bristle noses (who've just had babies!) Yoyo loaches Bronze Cories

do u need to turn your tank heaters up in the winter
jimboNZ replied to aaron11's topic in Beginners Corner
I generally turn mine up to 28 in the winter, just in case. Back down to 26 in summer -
I've followed Wet Pets instructions and nothing bad has ever gone wrong *knocks wood* Put the bag in a bucket, open it up, fill the bag with your own tank water so that there is 1/2 old water 1/2 new water, leave 10 mins, into new home!
-
Heres mine, like I posted in beginners corner: 260L Fluval Vicenza tank In there I have: 2 bristlenoses' 6 assorted cories (2 bronze, 2 leopard, and 2 panda/bandit) 10 neons 9 harlequins 6 male guppies (gf's favorite  haha) 2 Gouramis 1 Siamese Fighter Male 5 Lemon Tetra Looking add a few more to the tetra schools and the harlequins and then I'll probably be done. Start saving the the next tank!
-
Nope not yet *knocks on wood*. They tend to stay away from each other, the tank is big so i guess that helps

Hi all, Some of you my remember I joined up as a newbie a little while ago and had a few questions regarding my Fluval 260L setup. All is well and here are some pics of my tank and its inhabitants! This is the whole tank itself with the built in filtration system on the far right corner. Harlequins and neons and guppies oh my! As well as one of my 2 gouramis in the background 1 of each of the 3 species of cory I have in there. (Each are in a pair) Newly added Lemon Tetra Siamese Fighter showing off his colours Siamese Fighter again Feeding frenzy! One of the 2 gouramis I have. The cobalt blue one is a little shy.

Most of the time landlords dont have a problem with fish and small animals. No pets usually means cats and dogs
-
Today I added another Panda Cory (I already had 1 in there with 2 leopard cories and 2 bronze cories) and another neon. I think I might add to the harlequin rasbora shoal and add some glowlight tetras later on
-
I really like my harlequins so maybe I could add more to them. I like colourful and/or interesting fish, preferably not expensive too
-
Ive had a look at platties but the ones at the local stores dont really appeal much in terms of colour

Hi all, My 260L is fully set up and running really well (except for a little algae ) and am trying to think of fish to put in. At the mo I have: 9 Neon Tetra 10 Harlequin Rasbora 6 assorted male guppies 1 Male siamese fighter 5 assorted cory's 2 bristlenoses Looking for maybe a few more (if im not at capacity already?) to fill the tank with, keeping in mind that I have a siamese fighter so phantoms, dwarf gouramis and fin nippers are out Cheers for the help
-
Normally yes as tadpoles, sometimes as full frogs but its a little out of season. You'll have to wait until spring/summer for some, unless some people are selling them off on trademe

Ok, I have algae now. Came home from a week away (my gf was looking after the fish) to find a good portion of the front and back of the tank covered in spotty green algae. It was also on the rocks in the tank too. Im concerned my tank is getting too much light. I had the lights set to come on at 12 and go off at 9 but we also get sun in the lounge during the day (only a little direct sunlight hits the tank and only for about 1 hour just before midday). The plants I have have also started to go a little dark. I have a couple of Cabomba caroliniana in the tank and they are the ones who have gone dark a bit. What do I do?!

No not at all, the cat is about 3 1/2 years old and the rabbit is only about 8 months or so. They basically just got used to one another over time (probably helps that the rabbit is about the same size as the cat).
