  1. Hi guys it was sent to me here are the photos: none of the bags had any air inside, the ratio of water to air should be 50% for fish that size 2 ltrs would be minimum. The box was not high enough, when the courier bought the package, My first thought was that the fish will be small. This is what I had to do: My sons Birthday present. Why did you not courier overnight? why Monday morning? Look there is no doubt that the fish were a nice size and nice fish, but sorry Anthony the packaging was really sub-standard here is another photo that shows the actual fish bag. NO AIR WHAT SO EVER. It was not the couriers fault, it was the packaging.

    GBR's itching

I have a 100ltr tank with GBR's (pair). I cannot seem to get them to stop itching! :dunno: (Not ich) My parameters are spot on, I do water changes (good filtered water 30% every 3 days) I have an eheim external canister that is more then adequate. I have used formalin 5% because I know flukes can be a problem...but still itching. Thinking about a UV system, the ones you see on trademe for $60-$80. Comments please. Thanks parameters ph 7 nitrites 0 nitrates 0 Ammonia 0
  4. Thanks Guys, The tank (110 liters, but only half full) actually looks superb when I put on the lighting at night, so natural (i only do it occasionally) there are a few snails and tadpoles and two triops, I will add more only when I have the formula right. I have tried to remove the damsel nymphs, If I remove 6 triops and I replace the pond with 20 I will be more then happy. Shall I add daphnia or brine shrimp? I also have some spare driftwood. about to add a sponge filter and/maybe an air-stone.
  5. I have a tank setup, and had a pair one died, I expect I have a few more. ok can someone give me a hand with water parameters, food dept, movement etc. Currently I am just using pond water as they seem to find that ok. What do the eggs look like? Just need a helping hand to migrate from pond to tank. Thanks
  6. I did not know what it was, so what I will do is set up a tank. If I get them to breed, I will give them away. I will now start hunting in my pond. I introduced tadpoles there from a pond up the hill a few years ago, I must have collected an egg or two with the debris. I will keep you all posted.
  7. i found this article: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1298855/British-shrimp-worlds-oldest-creature.html what is it doing in NZ.
  8. netted from my pond, here is an image of it upside down: the right way up, it look like a horse shoe crab, it is the size of my thumb.

I need to bring my PH down, I will be introducing Apistos to the tank, I will use peat, RO water and tap. Has anyone got experience using this combination? Do I place the peat in the filter, what type? I know I should not play around with the ph too much, but as I do not have many fish in the tank I would like to get it down slowly. I will not be using chemicals, just the above. Thanks

    German Blue Rams

I do a lot water changes. I do use tap water. Hey, thanks for the info on the ph, I am quite happy not to be messing with water. The rams seem to be eating well, they do go up and down the glass a bit, thought that was an indication of inadequate water parameters. Only bristlenoses, the tank is empty, However I am thinking of introducing Apisto (Dan) into the tank, But before that I need to make sure the water is generically right for both fish.

    German Blue Rams

My Readings: pH - 7.6 NH3/NH4+ (Ammonia) - 0 ppm (mgL) NO2- (Nitrite) - 0 ppm (mgL) NO3- (Nitrate) - 0ppm (mgL) PH seems a bit high for rams? I have ph down and RO water any advise on how to use these. thanks
  14. Do people use salt? irrespective of whether they have a decease or not?

    Reverse osmosis

I really like the tannin look, its almost like tinted glass and it looks natural. Plus flashes of color through the the tannin is a real show. Thanks for peat, suggestion.
  19. Acquired one from a friend. I do not have a marine tank just freshwater. But my tap water is chlorine free but has a high PH 7+. This does not suit keeping Discus, Rams or Apistos. I would like to use this RO system, as I want to eliminate chemical usage, the problem is I know that there are some good minerals and bad and both suffer with RO water. (marine tanks supplement this with salts) Can I mix some tap water and RO water and get the desired PH value and correct chemical composition? With my current tank with no RO water shall I slowly add RO water? The goal is to use as less chemicals as possible. Thanks

    German Blue Rams

this was sold to me as a male rainbow ram, can anyone confirm this, I think its a female, if it is have I got a right to return it? :dunno: it is chasing the other ram: Thanks Dino
  24. I have had a pair breed, they are great parents...too good in fact, they will chase everything away. if they have bred in a community tank, you may have problems with parental aggression.
