  1. I've just got my 2 little clowns, finally! One's doing it's own thing, but the other one's sorta skimming the surface? just speeding in a square along the perimeter of the tank with his nose just above the water level. Is that normal? I don't think it's a lack of oxygen because his mouth is still under the water and the other two fish seem fine. Is he just entertaining himself? Thanks guys!
  2. he was swimming happily before i fed him, everything seemed okay till after feeding time. An aptaisia got hold of some of his food and he tried to get it back then sorta jumped back. I guess he got stung? Could that have caused it? I know I should've gotten rid of the aptaisia
  3. Is this normal? I just got a little wrasse and today was the first time I fed it frozen food, might have put in a bit too much but it starting gobbling everything like mad then after awhile just lay there not moving and sort of breathing heavily. I thought oh no I've killed the little guy but after awhile he started swimming, slowly but getting better. Should I not feed him for the next couple days? Do marine fish overeat and die like goldfish? Thanks guys
  4. yup! its called a sump might need to put it together in pieces but it should work
  5. I just ordered 14000k bulbs because I read that they've got a balance of blue and white?
  6. Oh yea also, do you think I should bother getting T5's for bluer lighting? Sigh, I'm too poor to even consider this hobby, and I've yet to see one fish!
  7. Wow that was fast That's good news because I went to redwood aquatics and had a look at their MH pendants to see if there was a recommended height and one of them said at least 30cm from water surface. That plus the depth of the lights would make for a pretty fugly canopy
  8. Hey all, I just got myself three 150W MH lamps, which I'm looking to incorporate into a canopy. My tank's a 4ft. My question is, how high off the water surface would these need to be? I have plenty of computer fans and the canopy will have an open back so I'm not too fussed about heat around the lights, just the radiant heat from the bulbs being too near the surface that might kill any livestock. Thanks guys
  9. alritey thanks guys! back to lyttelton they go
  10. Hey I was fishing in Lyttelton today and caught 2 starfish, both about the same size, roughly 90mm across. I was just wondering if it was safe to put this in my tank. I don't have anything else in there apart from live rock. But I don't want to put them in there if they're gonna suck up all the coralline from the surface of my rocks. If they're not safe then I won't put them in. My tank's not very big and I'm only planning to have an anemone and a bubble coral in there and 2 clownfish. Oh and also as of 2 minutes ago a bristleworm that's been bugging me has been caught and disposed of! :bounce:
  11. I've only been cycling it for a week, the rocks came from John at Organism. I tried using hot water to kill the little anemone things and those buggers are fast for brainless invertibrates. As soon as my syringe got anywhere near them they just pulled back into the rock as fast as anything (shaky hands don't help I suppose) Yea I was surprised about the pictures, I tried using my sister's new digital camera but normal mode macro mode the whole white balance thingamabob and nothing seemed to work, it wouldn't focus when i zoomed in. Anyway hopefully things go well and once everything's done I'll post some pics up. Thanks guys!
  12. Hi guys, I'm new to saltwater and I'm cycling my tank at the moment, don't have much in it apart from a few rocks, anyway I noticed some tiny things growing on some of the rocks and also some other stuff. Are they okay being in there or should I remove them and if so, how? When I went to get my rocks from Organism, John cut out something which resembled what's in my tank and he said that I don't want them in there. Apologies if pictures don't show, first time trying to attach pics and also sorry for cellphone pics Thanks guys!
