  1. way back in the sixties I established a tank in the sunset old folks home...it was enjoyed by the residence soooo much...unfortunatly tooo much ..each and every oldie would give 1/2 there biscut to these fish every day untill the staff asked for it to be removed...it used to have biscuts floating all over the place..my sagestion is sort out the lid so they cannot feed them. then again there is a tall hex tank in arran court where my mum is & it is fine..maybe too high for them. it has about 6 coloured goldfish in it so reduces the power bill I guess...all the best.
  2. I have found the smaller grains if collected 'wet' do not float..
  3. in my main tanks I still use undergravel filters coverd in a thin layer of fine fabric to stop the fines going through together with a can filter that gives me min 15 min all water pass through...then I use a layer of pumice sand from taupo..built up to 60mm in places with rocks...I am convinced the small pumice grains ( some up to 3mm ) help with the bio filter system...results are the water is GIN CLEAR
  4. TRIED ALL THAT WITH LITTLE RESULT..GOT SOME BLACKLINE FLYING FOX WHO CLEANED IT ALL UP FAST AND KEEP IT THAT WAY
  5. OK WILL DO UP THE TEMP..as for food they atre spiolt rotten...have dark gravel so here goes i would like to as it has always been my dream for some 35 yeras..sadly had to flush a $150 one down the loo today.
  6. i have taken the temp from26 to 28 and see what happens ..otherwise off to TM we go
  7. MINE ARE EXACTLY THE SAME..NOW IN BB TANK WITH THREAT IF NO ACTION BY SUNDAY..OFF TO TRADE ME U GO...
  8. My discus will always welcome me and if I have there fav..blood worm will stick there heads out of the water...proverb...QUICKEST WAY TO FISHES HEART IS THROUGH THE STOMACH... a bit like us hey fellas ?
  9. anyone breeding these and if so do u have any for sale please...darrell
  10. Anyone out there breeding Bristol Shubkin & if so are u interested in selling some..
  11. pupuke aquariums in northcote have a good selection with quality fish...lots of discus..good luck
  12. I have just bought 3 pair of these cute fish..best looking Austra;lians I have ever seen ...love the differant disply they have to other males as to the females...has anyone ever breed then if so would appriciate a few comments...aka silver-fox
  13. one end of my fishroom//all 28mm treated ply on concrete blocks..can be changed very easily
  14. I have bought mine from Ikes in devonport and cannot comment on the anti-bacterial side...my thinking was it is the first 'food & waste' trap before the other medium but this has made me wonder ??? tanks are clear & fish are happy so that is my best indicator...its just easy to throw it out & replace with fresh piece...any further comments would be appreciated...D
  15. I have 12 tanks with top filters as well as 10 with hang-on filters & 3 large can filters...they all take a small amount of time to clean but the trick I use is I bought a meter by 2m wide thick 'dacron' for $9 and cut up small sections that fit in the filters ..then every 2 - 3 weeks just throw away the clogged material & replace with new price..easy as..keep smiling clean filter = happy fish.
