  1. Hey, puppies cry, vomit and poo too mate! lol
  2. Hey, they are most likely the lake Kutubu rainbowfish (Melanotaenia Lacustris) and they can grow to about 12cm if ya lucky. I have 6 myself
  3. Hey, its probably Echinodorus Osiris, or Echinodorus 'Rose'
  4. I don't think thats deep enough especially if gravel/stones you are using are quite coarse.
  5. I using that stuff on two of my tanks at the moment and on others in the past, underneath fine and normal sized gravel and never had any problems. How deep is the layer of gravel that you have on top of the aquabasis? I like to have at least 5cm when using it.
  6. I think it was JBL's PhosEX what I used, but that should work fine, don't use it unless your phosphate is high though, otherwise it'll be a waste.
  7. I had this happen a while back. When I checked my water, the nitrate and phosphate levels were way too high. So I got some phosphate remover and did a small water change every second day to bring the nitrate and phosphate back down to where they should be, and the Java fern came right. This may or may not be the case with you, so check your water!
  8. Hey I've got all three. The first volume has a section on how to set up planted tanks, but they are mainly about the amzing tanks pictured but great if you're looking for aquascaping ideas
  9. IHBR

    brown algae

I always use the otocinclus catfish before I use chemicals, I find they always do a great job at clearing it up everytime. They don't like the water too alkaline though
  10. For a non-chemical route, you could borrow someones blue gourami. They love hydra.
  11. cONCH, wikipedia herbert axelrod and read on
  12. Ok, hold on, I did say "some people" not all pepole! I just get annoyed seeing beginners on here asking a question here and getting the wrong info. And its good to see there ARE people on here who do know enough to correct the bad advice. I just hope the corrections are made before the mistakes are made.
  13. Hey snookie Don't feel too bad, this post wasn't aimed specificaly at you, your post was just a good example thats all
  14. I suppose whatever info you get its all through someones experience, I'd just rather get it from a trusted and well recognised source eg: Takashi Amano, or Hans Baensch, or even the fraudster himself Herbert Axelrod.
  15. Yeah I thought so . But as I've said how does the beginner no that?, I just find it pays to have something to refer back to just in case.
  16. I reckon theres more conflicting info here than in a good book on the subject, and there's always the library, thats usually a free resource
  17. its in the fresh water section, and the thread is "will this be ok in a 2ft?". I know you wouldn't keep an arowana in a 2ft tank, but does the person new to the hobby?
  18. there was a thread, someone was going to put arowana in a 2 foot tank with neons and killies, the reply to that was "should be fine" were both the people serious? were the neons etc going to be food? and was the arowana going to be moved to a bigger tank later?
  19. Hey, I'm been a lurker in this forum for awhile, and a lot of the things I've read have made my eyes roll!I feel people should really be reading books on this subject, and get the right info before taking the advice of some people on this forum, even some of the most out of date books have more correct info that what peolple some are telling others here! I think people are just gettin lazy and its going to get newbes in the hobby in trouble. Comments please.
  20. using it I think depends if you want clear water (eg to get rid of tanin from the water caused by wood). Carbon can also take out some of the nutrients you have put in with feritilizer. You could use seachems purigen, costs a bit more but can last up to bout 6 months, and leaves nutrients alone
  21. I'm sotra new here, but heres what I think Animates - Great service (pitty they'v got no idea what they'r talking about, hell they think a purebred + purebred = purebred) Fish over priced Critter Kingdom - Service aint so great, tanks always look so so, and whats with all that java moss at Blenheim rd, and those display tanks at stanmore, OMG Redwood - Next best place after Organism, I just wish that when there new fish came out of quarantine they actually had them out on display! Pet World - used to be good, not now. The stores in the malls OMG Organisim - the only thing john needs is a bigger store to fit a couple of couches and a coffee machine
