  1. I think everyone should have to raise, catch, kill, gut, pluck, cook, and eat a chicken before they pass judgement either way. Its very easy to just pull something out of the freezer at the Supermarket without knowing its true value.
  2. Better make it an even 1100.
  3. So... 1099 replies to my thread on a little old RSM.
  4. Thanks for the offer - I want it there for people to enjoy as is, but I don't want it turning up elsewhere as some others have
  5. My Royal Whiptails lay every 11 days or so regardless - and now a pair of the youngsters have paired up and laid a brood too, all in the same tank, at the same time. Whiptails everywhere
  6. Emo in his Red 'Blankee'. Copyright Claimed. Don't Copy this image under any circumstances.
  7. He has another Anemone to play in now:
  8. Well, it ended up being a clown fish tank - here is Emo and his Anemone
  9. Vets and Doctors can give you a prescription for this (its a prescription controlled drug) - just tell them what you need it for. Try a Vet first, as they can usually dispense it too. You may have to pay a consult fee.
  10. Yep, that is exactly what is happening - its a simple defensive reaction to protect its polyps.
  11. Nice - your experience confirms my own.
  12. How are things progessing?
  13. Pretty much any shop can get them - just get them to order one that suits your budget.
  14. That stuff sounds like a good start, but I think you'll need more calcium available for uptake in your water to repair the damage that is already there (HITH is associated with de-calcification). If you don't want to buy Aqua-Dur etc you could just buy a two dollar cuttlefish from any petshop and throw it in the tank for now, or better still buy some JBL 'Calcil' turtle sticks, or Flukers Crickets - YUMMY! (they are gutloaded with Calcium) and feed them if you are worried about affecting your pH too much. Also, dont be alarmed if a blackish 'cobweb' begins to form around and over the holes - that is the first sign of skin tissue regeneration. Good luck
  15. Don't use a hacksaw blade - they are too blunt, and the teeth protrude from the edge and will scratch the glass
  16. Use a Plasterer's Knife (looks like a scraper but is very thin, bendy, and sharp)
  17. I'd agree, the tank isn't suitable for an anemone (you've got no skimmer), but the rest should be OK with regular water changes.
  18. I doesn't matter what is causing those symptoms, the treatment is likely to be the same - do 30% weekly water changes (using aged water or a conditioner like Seachem Prime) and get the water right. 99% of all fish deaths come back to their keepers being too lazy to keep up with regular water changes.

    Whitespot

Whitespot is an opportunistic parasite - any form of stress that lowers the fish's immune system will allow it to take hold - be it physical stress (heat, low oxygen, flyspray residue etc.), other diseases (bacterial infections etc.) or environmental conditions like being in a loud / busy part of the house. Do lots of water changes to start with to dilute any potential contaminants.
  20. So reducing your stocking levels helped?
  21. Go and look at your tank. I'm afraid the proof is in the pudding, so to speak.
  22. Too many fish, too little maintenance, too bad. You need to reduce the number of fish in there (sounds like it will take care of itself), buy some testkits and use them, and ensure you are cleaning the filter properly (without harming the bacteria). Make sure you are not overfeeding the tank, and you need to be doing at least 20% water changes per week given the number of fish you have in there. Here's a tip - if you aren't willing to drink the tank water yourself, it isn't clean enough.
  23. Yea, it works well - it creates a jelly that fish seem to like eating - but you have to drain it, otherwise its too goopy and disapates before the fish eats it - so drop it in in small amounts as the fish eats it, not one big lump.
  24. Just crush the tablet up, defrost and drain some frozen food, rub it all together, and feed.
