  1. my tank is cold water though. I have a friend who has bn catfish perfectly fine in a cold water tank.Alos have heard from a friend of a friend who owns a pet shop that bn catfish adapt to cold water but they just dont breed. So not sure if this could be rite?
  2. He seems to be back to his normal self again.. very strange.. but I would've done the pea treatment thing
  3. I brought a few more plants for my tank so hopefully it help.. not too keen blocking out too much sunlight as my plants need light. Have a few snails that may help with the algae on the glass as well. Fingers crossed!
  4. Im unsure about a temperature change.. could be a possibility! .. strange thing is the fish seemed fine today.. so i'll keep an eye on it!
  5. nope always had the same brand of food, the other fish in the tank is fine.. although we did have a death about a week ago, but i wasnt there to see the fish at the time, and another staff member got rid of it before i could look at it.. nothing has changed, water changes are made reguarly etc.. just looks like a case of swim bladder to me
  6. I only just noticed the goldfishs' behaviour today, never noticed anything like it before. We've had the goldfish for about 4 years now and never had any probs with it!
  7. My work place has an aquarium, and I noticed today that one of the fish wasn't swimming normal. It kept trying to swim down to the bottom of the tank, but kept floating to the top and then it would bob on the top of the water on its side for a few secs and then try and swim to the bottom again. It looked as though it was trying to stop itself from floating to the top of the water. It's a fantail goldfish. Is there any cure for this? Or is it too late? And does this sound like swim bladder disorder?
  8. I mite try more plants then, does the algae problem affect the fish in any way?

  10. I have green water troubles too.. those filters with UVs are really expensive.. would moving the location of the tank do much to alleviate this? My tank must get alot of sun during the hottest part of the day... what about getting aquarium snails?
  11. maybe i should have sed something, but i didnt wanna be rude and butt in while my friend was trying to organise flowers..
  12. On the counter was a vase, probably no more that 5 litres, it was slighty rounded but quite tall. The base of the vase would have measured about 20cms in diamater. Looked closer at the vase while my friend was speaking to the florist and noticed 3 fantail goldfish swimming around inside it!!.They were probably about 4 or 5cms in length. I was extremely shocked, those poor fish had hardly any swimming space at all. There was also a flower inside the vase.. must have been for decoration or something. How wrong is that!
  13. Brought a new fantail goldfish for my tank a week ago.. wen I brought it home it showed no signs of stress, and after letting it out of the bag after climitising, it immediately started to explore it's new environment. The first thing it did was seek out the small snails that I have and tried to eat one.. spat it out straight away and then went for it again! Those poor snails.. no wonder they are all sitting at the surface of the tank now lol!! Has already attacked one of my plants and pulled it to shreds.. The other goldfish that i've had have always sat at the bottom of the tank and not moved around for at least a day after being introduced.. but noo not this one!
  14. I have no idea what type of snails. They're tiny! You have to look closely to see them! I have seen about 5 or 6. I have a full test kit. Should I test for nitrite? Do I just throw them away if they get uncontrollable?
  15. Its been awhile but the ammonia in my tank is now 0. Should be ready to add fish now? Does this mean my tank is cycled because of the existing filter? I have also found some snails in my tank. Is that a bad thing? Is there anything I should know about them?
  16. maybe ive killed the bacteria in there some how. Hopefully not.
  17. It's been almost a week since I thoroughly cleaned out my fish tank. The ammonia on Monday was at 0. I have tested today and it is at 0.25. Could this be due to the established filter in my tank? Alright to add fish now? Do I water change again before I add fish? I am going to add about 3 white cloud.
  18. Thanks! Have tested for ammonia and it is at 0, so onto a good start!!
  19. Okay everything cleaned. Just put my undergravel filter back together and put back in tank with clean gravel. Also put the establised filter back in tank after rinsing it, turned it on and it's made my water all cloudy! Is that a problem?
  20. I gave the gravel a bit of a stir and the water turned cloudy, with floaty bits in it.. eww! I lifted up the filter plate and there was slime and decomposing bits of food and crud everywhere. So that was probably my problem. Even the filter thing was clogged with crap! Should I give the established filter a quick rinse just to get rid of any loose stuff that might be floating in it?
  21. Thanks so much for advice! Would hate to see what's under the filter plate! lol but here goes...!!
  22. Yeah that could be the case. I'll clean the gravel. Should I leave the undergravel filter alone?
  23. Should I buy a different filter? Im currently using an undergravel filter.
  24. Yeah I was using goldfish, I had 2 small ones in the tank. They died about 3 or 4 days ago. I just might have to start again because something went wrong along the way!
  25. I must be doing something wrong. I did a 50% water change yesterday afternoon as ammonia was up to 8.0 (hadnt changed water for few days after fish died). Checked ammonia level just now, and in less than 24 hours its back up to 8.0!
