My wcmm's were fine with my dwarfs. I agree that bullying may become a problem.

It measures in at 62cm length wise, and 31cm across. Would prefer 2 bulbs. I am pretty competent at electronics so should be able to wire it myself (or with some help from my dad) Thanks for the help.

I finally got round to working on this a bit more. I screwed it all up to see if it fits together. Now I am planning on taking it apart, glueing it together, and make sure it all fits perfectly. Paint it with water proof undercoat, then final coat after that. Here's some pictures of it where it'll be going I still haven't decided on what lighting. I went to some lighting shops and Bunnings but most were pretty expensive. Probably looking at two 2' T5's but will continue looking for them somewhere cheaper. I am also thinking about changing the gravel into something smaller and darker. I am also planning on repainting the inside of the box the tank is in to something darker. And then have also got to source some plant for the tank, which is the whole purpose for the lighting etc.

So 70 L I should have say 35w? Does the number, i.e 6500K, relate to a name? (someone suggested daylight)
-
Ok that helps thanks. What would be the recommended wattage, voltage and brightness be?
-
Yea I would like the lighting more for growing plants (have to get some more first) Would a place like Bunnings or Mitre Ten be a good place for lighting, or LFS's?
-
Thanks for all that. Sorry no more progress yet as I have been at school and at training, it's more of a weekend project as I'm not in a rush to get it done. But I will post more pictured when I make some more progress on it. About the lighting, would one single long light going the length of the hood or say two single bulbs (like above post) be more efficient. Can you even get fluorescent single bulbs? What would be the difference between compact flouro tubes and normal flouro tubes?
-
Oh yea sorry I forgot to add that I put 2 layers of very strong sealant on it as well as two layers of normal paint.

Ahh I'm building a hood for my tank to hold lights etc. It's for the 2foot tank in my room. The plan for it is to enclose some lighting equipment which I am still to source out. The main part of it is made out of some MDF my dad had up in his model railway shed, and some other thin wood we had lying around. I am still yet to find what lights too use. I would like something as cheap as possible, but will still be able to let my plants grow. Any suggestions? The hood is made to fit onto the surrounding I have already made.

Ok yea I sort of figured it was going to end up dieing. Ahhh what you be the best ( most humane) way of destroying it?

Ok thanks. After another close inspection I'm pretty sure that this may be dropsy, as it is actually listing both of the symptoms. Probably the best thing I could do for is it possibly take it to the LFS where I purchased it? As I have know where near enough knowledge or skill to treat fish as I am pretty new. Thanks alot for the help, disappointed about losing one of my fish though =(
-
How can I tell if it is dropsy? And uhhh, what is dropsy? Any reason why it has only affected just the one fish? Any chance of it spread?
-
Ok peanuts thanks heaps! I'll get some frozen food for him tomorrow then =)

Yea sorry I don't have a digital camera. It is light blue coloured. It's basicly it's hole stomach area that looks larger. It doesn't have any scales sticking out. No redness that I can see. It's swimming has changed quite a bit. It now pretty much stays in one place low to the ground. It is also really slow at coming out for food, which is really strange as usually both race out to get it. edit: ok I managed to borrow my sisters' camera, sorry about the not so great photos. Hopefully this could help with a possible diagnostic! Thanks too anyone that can help!

Ok so recently one of my Dwarf Gouramis has in the space of about a week gotten to look like it's quite fat. It now spends most of its time hidden in the corner of my tank over hiding low in the plants. The other Dwarf seems fine and still swims everywhere around the tank. So I was wondering is this normal for a Dwarf? Could it be full of eggs or similar? Or is it sick?
-
Ok thanks for that, I may look at buying some sometime soon!!
-
Hi there, I was wondering if I would be able to keep a (or even more) Dwarf Gourami's in my tank. The tank is 600mm X 320mm X 360mm. Is it big enough? Could I fit in more than one? Thanks for any help
-
Would I be able to fit a GBA in my tank(600x320x360)? and what else would go well with them? thanks
-
I'm not sure if they were gba's or not, very similar, but smaller, probably just younger. Anyone know how big they grow to?

Thanks Whetu. I set up my tank today while I am on school holidays, only took me about 2 hours. I now have about 2cm of Daltons Aquatic mix, about 2cm of sand (thoroughly washed) and a scattering of medium-small pebbles. The tank water seems to be a little bit murky, but I believe that this will eventually go away after a few water changes I have kept in my old plants that I had in my freshwater tank, just testing out if they will survive with the new heater that I have now placed in the tank. Currently I have just my 9 White Cloud Mountain Minnows in the tank, they don't seem to like the light on top though (Jebo JB09) and hide under the large rocks that I have placed in the tank like a tunnel. I still haven't decided on what fish I will eventually get, though I am interested in these small golden sucker fish (unsure on the name). But I will research the ones that people have advised. Thanks all

Ok thanks for all of that. Does anyone know where I could get some plants from in Wellington, I have looked at a few pet shops and they don't seem to have much range or stock
-
haha yes it is an excuse, but it doesn't help if you don't have the money to buy a new tank. Seeming as I only bought my tank about a month ago, I'll have to wait a good while before I manage to afford a new tank
-
Ok thanks I will stay away from angels for now till I get a bigger tank. Smidey, haha no the mix comes in 15kg bags but I wouldn't even need half of that. And thanks for the advice on the sand. I currently have some wcmms' in my tank and heard that they can live in warm water as well, could someone please verify this, and also what other fish could live with these?

Hi there, I have decided to change my cold water tank into a new planted freshwater tank. The tank is 600mm (L)x 320mm (W)x 360mm(H). I have a few questions to ask; A) What are some good fish the would be able to go into this tank, I'm pretty keen on getting some angelfish but not sure how many or if they would fit. Also what fish are they compatible with? B) I have recently collected some sand from Oriental Bay in Wellington and was wondering what are some good ways to clean the sand? C) Do plants grow well in just normal beach sand or do I need to go buy some Daltons Aquatic Mix as well?, though I don't really need a 15kg bag of it. D) What are some good looking plants that will go well in this tank? I would like quite a heavily looking planted tank, so a few different plants would be greatly sought after. E) My current filter is a basic Elite 15 Stingray filter, would I need to upgrade this and what are some good (preferably cheap) options to get a good filtration system going? Thanks in advance for all responses and sorry about all of the questions, I just would like to do this properly and not waste money on things that are not needed

Ok sorry my bad about they hang off / internal filter things. Any way the filter seems to create enough oxygen and the fish seem fine about not having the air pump on. Thanks all
