  1. hi guys, Is there anyone in sydney who knows anyone that keeps or breeds African cichlids?, i moved here 4 years ago and im finally setting up a tank (200l cube) and i cant seem to find anything other then electric yellows, blues, some zebra and a whole lot of peacocks, and they are bloody expensive!, $18 for a electric yellow at the moment, not sure why but prices have gone way up in the last year and less species are now available. anyway it feels good to be back on the forum and back into keeping awesome fish. cheers guys
  2. im very interested in this topic and just wanted to know, if he had a small hang on back maybe a dymax xp-30 or a deltec would that help with keeping water conditions stable?

HFF have them at $75 each or $250 for 5. if you wait and ask around on here someone will know someone that has them for alot cheaper they may be small ones but you'll save alot of money, i bought 5 - 1 1/2 inche fronts for $35 each which are the same size ones that HFF have now!!
  4. i was at illicit tattoos today and saw a custom arrowana design drawn up and pinned to the wall, it is a japanese style one. Saw it and thought it might be someone on here thats a huge arrowana fan, plenty of them on here im sure lol. next time im in ill try and get a pic of it. it looks really cool with plenty of detail, so much going on, whoever it is its gonna look fantastic
  5. i have the atman UF2400, it does around 2340l p/h and it has a UV light as a bonus. its on my 400l mixed african tank and its great, very happy with it
  6. hey ryan, yeah the bag you used was pretty heavy duty, very thick and well tied up. he is one tough fish though as he is already settled in and eating well and looks good. im still angry that the courier people didn't even bother and tried to tell me that shipping fish this way is cruel and she couldnt believe that we had shipped him that way. just be warned people when shipping fish use some one well trusted by others who have shipped before, can all the people who do ship fish often let us know which is the best and most trusted company to use, would hate this to happen to someone else and end up with a dead fish, cheers
  7. the only reason we did a saturday delivery is because its the only day i get off and no is home until after 7pm on any other day so no one would have been there to sign for it, which they suppose to have done. i think it actually may have sat in a warehouse for the weekend as they said it had been put on a truck on friday but didnt know which one!
  8. all i wanna say is, i am extremely angry with someone at NZpost. just to let you know what happened heres the story. i bought a frontosa from ryanjury and organised shipping to be delivered on saturday. it clearly has urgent, overnight and a saturday delivery ticket stuck on it, and it was also track and traced. i waited until 9 am saturday then decide to call them and find out if they were gonna drop it off soon and they said they had no idea where the package was, i tried several different times with the same result, ryan also tried several times and we got nowhere, we tried until 2pm!, so we came to the conclusion that the package was lost, even though it was track and traced they couldnt tell us wat had gone wrong. then today my sister finds a polybox sitting outside the gate in front of the mail box with my name on it, the pricks had just left the box outside(next to the footpath!) for who knows how long without knocking on the door or even getting a signature   . lucky ryan had boxed him up well and he survived being boxed from friday to today(monday). dont even wanna think about what the box went through on the way here. Damn you NZpost!!

  12. hey cichfanatic congrats on the new babies, i just would like to know where do you get micro worms and brine shrimp?. came home today to find little electric yellows swimming around in a small tank i set up a few days ago, about 15 of them, first time for me and the mother electric yellow so its quite exciting woop woop!! and do you feed them other things aswell like crushed algae flakes or just the worms, sorry for all the questions but any help would be highly appreciated
  13. excellent thanks heaps guys , im gonna leave her for a few more days then im gonna check on the babies just to make sure. thanks for the link smidey that really helped out much appreciate it
  14. does the empty tank need to be decorated or just have water in it. and when the babies are out do i leave the mother in the same tank or put her back in the other tank just worried if i put her back in the zebra will attack her, thanks alot for your help anna_&_chris at least now i have some thing to go on
  15. hey guys i need some help plz, iv recently returned from a 1 month holiday and have found that 1 of my electric yellows is holding babies in its mouth, i am not sure how long its been holding for and would like to know if i should strip her or leave her to spit this is the first time this has happened to me so any help would be much apreciated, also its been acting weird since i have put her in the breeding trap she swims normal but when stationary she sits vertically (head up tail down) and there is a blue zebra protecting the trap it chases away any approaching fish and stays close to the trap but once in awhile tries to bite through at the electric yellow. any ideas what this could mean??
  16. 9.5+ wow im no pro, but have you tested the water your using aswell before adding it to the tank, and adding drift wood helps too, other then that the more experienced guys would be more helpful

    bamboo??

not sure if ill be using it anymore, not much info and not sure how it will work out. i really wanna use it but it seems that people have used it and they all seem to have problems with it going mouldy or it breaks up and pollutes the tank too much, might give it a go in a empty tank with no fish in it to see what happens, will report back with the results when i get this going
  21. hey guys has anybody got any idea if i can use silestone in an aquarium, have changed my mind about bamboo and wanted to use something i could make caves with and my brother in law suggested using pieces of silestone that he could get from his work, they use this stuff to make bench tops for kitchens and bath rooms, its made from crushed quartz and polymer resin,( info from the net) he has some nice pieces that i could "glue" together and make caves with, would this be ok, any info would be much appreciated thanks in advance guys

    bamboo??

    bamboo??

anyone ever used bamboo inside their tank as ornament pieces, just wanna know what it would look like and if it would have any effect on the tank water quality(decaying pieces??) dont really wanna use the shipwreck and stuff they sell at lfs as i dont like the look, i want the tank to have a natural look and thought nice big maybe 8-10cm wide pieces piled up sideways would look good and create lots of hiding places for the fish (hollow parts would act like caves??) any ideas, what do you guys think????
