  1. I did know that, so i kept them in the same position as they were found in the water.
  2. They do have a basking area, she has been sitting out of the water under the light for the last few weeks and only going in the water occasionally. I think she laid them over the edge of the shelf and they dropped to the water.
  3. Do i cover the eggs or leave them sitting on top? and also how long will they take to hatch if they are going to??
  4. We have a large female turtle and a male. She has laid eggs several times but i never see the whole eggs as they eat them first, however today i found two uneaten eggs that were laid straight into the water....... is there any thing i can do to hatch them or is it a waste of time. Any advice would be great thanks. I have put them in a small container floating at the top of the discus tank at the moment where it is warmer.
  5. Does it swim away when touched? Is its tummy bloated?? Our male did this a while ago after pigging out on zucchini, i thought he was dead but i left him alone and he came right by himself.
  6. I have now moved my 6 young discus to a larger tank ie 200 litres. They had a little fin rot and a couple of white spots when i moved them it was an urgent move as two of the smallest fish were being really badly bullied so i moved them before treating them. Now they have still got the fin rot / whitespot?? but as the tank is still trying to build up bacteria what treatment should i use without the risk of the bacteria being killed off???, the last time i tried furan in the small tank it shot the ammonia sky high so i stopped the treatment early. (naughty i know) then moved them. I have added salt. Any ideas on what i could use that is safe??
  7. Thats interesting..... some of our guppies are doing the exact same thing, i have seen the odd one flashing against plants and quite a few have red inflamed gills, some have lost condition. This started happening after moving them from a smaller tank to a much larger 90litre tank. Is the parasite treatment working? and what are you using??

    Tail rot

The only thing stopping me from doing the treatment is that i am needing to do a waterchange at least once a day if not twice. As the fish are still in a small tank, we have got the new 200 litre tank and got the new filter today but it arrived smashed!!! i was not happy as i want to get them in the bigger tank asap now i have to send the filter back. So will they be ok skipping a few water changes??

    Tail rot

I thought i better add that our pet shop only sells single capsules and i had to take her word for it regarding the dosage, otherwise i would of read the packet and probably wouldnt have this issue!! annoying.

    Tail rot

I was told by the person at our lfs that i only need to do one dose then 24hrs later add some more then 24hrs after that do a water change, it wasnt until i looked it up on the net that iread that i should of done another course 24hrs after the water change i hope it wont cause me any problems, i have been adding tonic salt after each water change and the whiteness on the tail has gotten better so i might just see how that goes but i will also do a Full Furan course too.
  11. Yes i think i will stick to my little bristlenoses, good on you for saving it, i do have a soft spot for plecos though.
  12. Ok i will do that, our female common bristlenose use to suck on to the side of our male dwarf gourami but he seemed to like it and would go up to her and nudge at her and she would latch herself on for a bit then let go it was weird!!! One is listed as a "Red spotted gold pleco"?? and the other the person is not sure what kind it is but its been in cold water with goldfish and is a "Black one".

    Tail rot

Ok i will do that, thanks for the advice. It definatly happened when it was getting picked on and now everyone is happy, i learned the hard way and will never only have three discus babies again, absolutly a bad number to have.
  14. Overnight i went off the idea of having a pleco and may stick to my favourites the bristlenose!! I have a male and female golden bristlenose with my big bristlenose in our other tank and he doesnt like them at all when they were babies he was really good with them but as they reach maturity i see more and more fights, i had to rehome our female bristlenose as she was forever being hassled by him and got really stressed. So i might let him have his peaceful life and move the two goldens with the discus, i will have to wait until i get it established any way. But i did like the look of those plecos on trademe!!
  15. Can these fish live in harmony together?? Also can a pleco that has been in a cold water setup adjust to a tropical setup ok?? I am looking at one that has been kept with goldfish on trademe and we would like something to do the cleaning in our discus setup.

    Tail rot

One of the discus has got two small spots on one fin, the picked on one has got white on the edges of it fins and its tail is ripped. When i treated them with furan the first time it cleared up the other discus but not the worst one, but i think i only did one course of furan 2. There are no spots on their bodies only tails or fins.

    Tail rot

One of my 6 young discus has got a bit of tail rot, i think this occurred when it was getting picked on when there was only the three, they are all doing exceptionally well except the tail rot i cant seem to get rid of it. I have done a treatment of furan 2, a couple of the others have got a couple of small white spots, should i try another treatment of Furan 2 or is there anything else i can do, i am in the process of moving them into a 200 litre tank this week and i would like to get on top of it, any suggestions??
  18. Some of our guppies appear to have red inflamed gills, one of the females has lost a lot of condition but is still eating. They have been in this new tank for about 6weeks after being removed from a 40litre tank (this one is 120litres). Ammonia nil Nitrite nil ph stable at 7.0 I havnt done a nitrate test as i dont have it. Could it be gill flukes?? I havnt noticed any strange behaviour. Also one of my baby discus has got red inflamed gills(in another tank) and is breathing really fast but he is the biggest fish out of the 6 and is growing really well. it arrived by courier 3 weeks ago and was breathing like this when it arrived. I have treated with furan 2 but it didnt help. ph 6.5 Ammonia nil now but it had a spike twodays ago despite my daily water changes, now doing twice daily water changes. nitrite nil.
  19. Thanks for all your help Caryl, i will try some more epsom salts.
  20. Knowing they can live so long makes me wonder if there is anything else i can do for this fish. Its still the same this morning, floating around on its back. I put one teaspoon of epsom salts in with 10litres of water is this the right dosage?? Are there any other meds that i should try??
  21. Yes they are like that, most of the fish have them in the pond, is there a cure for them? They have had them for a long time and are ok but they just look aweful. I didnt realise that they can live so long.
  22. We havnt started getting frosts or ice yet and the days are still warm but it is getting colder, and i will tell my parents to stop feeding the fish, thanks alot. I have just picked up the fish and its stomach is rock hard and about the size of a golf ball and it is very disorientated, i will keep it inside tonight and treat with epsom salts and tonic salt and if no improvement we will have to put it down as its not fair to leave it. It is very old so maybe its just its time, it has got small tumours all over it and one on its tail so it could be a huge tumour, i will let you know how we get on, thanks for your help.
  23. Ok that makes me feel a little better, i am hoping to get them in to the bigger tank in the next few weeks. I was just having a panic as its obviously going to take a little time to set up this other tank, longer than i thought but i have put so much time in to these babies i dont want to risk them dying.
  24. Thats interesting thanks Caryl, so you dont feed your pond fish at all in the winter? We have got a goldfish in a tank inside at the moment( i posted" goldfish Rescue") we have just set up a pond and want to put it out there, is it too cold to introduce it? i dont think its ever been in a pond. Its just the loan tank we have is only about 20litres and much too small for the fish.
