  1. Thanks Plantman, will get the Florish. As for the in gravel fertliser, well most of my plant are new and not many has their root into the grave yet, so may try that a bit later. At the moment, I have up the light to 23W which is 1550 lumen. Hope the plant will be fine from now
  2. I didn't know the plant need to be feed. Anyway, I saw a few brand of plant food over LFS but not sure which is a good one to give.
  3. I have quite a bit of plant in my new 60L tropical tank with 9 fish. Although the plant are growing well with new leaves, the leaves are small, thin and not looking healthy. The old leaves are not looking too nice either and they lost a bit of the green lush. I have a 11w florescent light that is on 14 hours/day. OK it is a study light but the tank is near to window. What can I do to improve the condition of the plant? My plant types are hygropilia polysperma, hygrophila difformis, sagittaria subulata, rotala rotundifolia, cryptocoryne wendtii and roseafolia. So far roseafolia is the only one that is doing well. Thanks, Sam
  4. There is a good 3 part artical here on fnzas about filter and material. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/articles/technical/filtration/ It is worth reading before buying any filter meterial.
  5. Didn't know this has been going on for so long. Guess I must be living in cave. Have fun
  6. It is a shame that FS there will go this far to make a sales. These poor fish are selling for RM$12 each which is about NZ$5.00. Ops! This is the link: http://www.guangming.com.my/content.pht ... 0702120982 Click on '放大' to have a large view.
  7. Did a search on Danio and I found the Glo Zebra Danio that look interesting. Are they avaialble in NZ?
  8. Well, I have 2 dawf gourami and 2 platy that are shy and sometime skittish. Unless they are hungry they do the hiding in my 60L tank and we have to look hard to find them. Is there any fish that is below 6cm, not shy or skittish and not aggrasive? Nice beautiful colour will be a plus. Thanks
  9. Hi caserole, Ammonia level is high on 1 and Nitrite and Nitrate are on 0. Well, I just switch to a canister filter as the hangon I got is very noisy and is driving the family nuts. Will do a 1/3 water change. The sick platy is silver in colour so it is hard to sport and he always hide behind the heater. However, I just found a pin head white dot on anoter platy with black tail. It is ich? I have Melafix at home, is it the medicine for it? Thanks, Sam
  10. Hi all, I've got 2 platys and 2 Dwarf Gourami in a 3 weeks old 60L tank. One of the platy is scraping itself agains the hard surface every few minutes and the others is starting to do it. From what I read, this is a sign of parasite. I can't see anything on the skin or gills and not sure what type of parasite it is. I have been changing 10L of water everyday since I got the fish, which is 2 weeks ago. Other than a platy that diead the very next day when they arrive, the rest of the fish has been fine - well till now. I also added a few plants from various source during this time. If it is a parasite, should I up the tempreture? Appreciate if you can recommand a madication that can be source in Wgtn and will not ruin the biological filter that I hope will kick in soon. Name of the shop that carry it will be good. TIA, Sam

    Purigen

To clean, the inst said to soak the Purigen in bleach for a day. Did you leave it for that long? If so, do you have another pack of Purigen inside the filter while this 1st pack being clean? Just wonder if we need to get extra. Also, where can I find sodium thiosulphate in NZ? TIA, Sam

    Hi from Wgtn

Hi All, Thanks for the welcome. :bounce: Just got ourselves a new 60cm tank and is slowing setting it up. Well, this is the biggest size we can fit in the house. At the moment water, plant, heater and filter are in and we are now ready for the fishes. A bit of debate what to get 1st. BTW, the covers for the tank are not quite suitable with HOB filter. Anyone know where I can get plexiglass or transparent Acrylic from a local source? Don't mind doing a bit of cutting if that is required. TIA, Sam
