'Dont go too small on the tank, you wont save much money ' Yeah, hadn't thought too much about the money side of things! Duh! Went today to buy a small tank and ended up just getting a breeding net after realising how much it was going to coast me to get a tank/fliter/heater... Got the fry food though for the future!
-
he he ok, will try all of the above... is any of this considered animal cruelty...? particularly the barry white?!!! are going to buy a little breeding tank today, I gather a reasonable small tank is all I'll need? What else, a sponge filter? or airstone? what exactly is an airstone and do i need both the filter and the airstone or do they both do the same thing?
-
I really want to have some fry to watch! So far only the Rams have laid eggs and that was only once and they ate them! For the fish I have listed below, in a community tank what should i do to help them all along? Mood lighting? Candles? Oysters and champagne?!

I'm excited to get going on some fish breeding... will be off to organism tomorrow to stock up on equipment! -
He he, I'll put him in an envelope!

My neons have very bulgy stomachs that within seconds will have changed from having a bulge sticking out one side to another, next thing it will be smooth and round, only to then be bulgy somewhere else! Is there an alien living in their stomachs or is this normal?

How often do you clean your filter sponge
fievels007 replied to je_suis_ketan's topic in Beginners Corner
I just give them all a rinse and a squeeze in the bucket of tank water I siphon out before pouring the water into my pots plants. Great liquid fertiliser! Tank seems very happy with a change and rinse each week. -
He he, I'm sitting staring into the tank while my partner watches the rugby! Deifinately more interesting in the tank! I'm willing my Blue Rams to breed! Last time they eggs disappeared over night. Congrats on your fry... I'm still an overly eager grandma just waiting waiting waiting!

We have two bristlenoses, bought them at the same time, one only a fraction bigger than the other, but he shot off with his growth, the other being very slow. Thought he was a boy and the other was a girl, but 'she' now seems to be growing bristles too I'd hoped we'd got a pair.
-
Ha ha, just thought I'd share my observations about my bristlenose... he's the first I've ever owned and he's growing his bristles...! They're about 1.5mm long... I'm not sure whether to be proud he's growing up or shocked at how ugly it makes him look! He's like a teenage boy growing facial hair before his first shave!!! ek?!!!

Not about whitesport, buut still about neons... My females seem to have big belly fluctuations! Is this normal for them to have... are they just like female human beings at that time of the month?! Sometimes they have nice slim bellies, other times, like now, their bellies are fat as!!! I've read its not possible to breed them... does any one know of otherwise? -
I have done a water change, all seems well in the tank, I know they do like their water to be clean! I do it weekly, but this week I had left it a couple of days extra... oops!
-
Phew...! She looked so bright and colourful before, during and for a couple of days after spawning and now this! I guess it must have taken a lot out of her! Ta!

My female Blue Ram has been unhappy for a while. On Tuesday she was very pale while I was away. I told Matt to give the fish some blood worms ands she came right, but today I am home and she looks very pale and blotchy in places there is usually no colour. We gave them some bloodworms and while she ate one her colour came back right away, but now she is pale again and the male chases her from time to time. Normally they get on perfectly, I've never seen her run away from him before. A week ago they laid eggs, but she ate them. While they were flirting she was brilliantly coloured, so I know what they are doing now is not mating! Help?!!!
-
Hmmm, well, as suspected, overnight they ate their eggs. Not surprised or disappointed at all! They'll do it again sometime soon I'm sure. I'll be ready for them then!
-
Well, the moment has arrived. Our blue rams are laying their first dozen.. or maybe 10 dozen? eggs. Tomorrow we are going away for the weekend, which is bad timing, but nevermind. I'm pretty sure they will end up eating the eggs from what I've read on here, but maybe they will surprise me and not. Anyway, should I do the water change that I planned to do tomorrow, or will that really ruin things? Is it best just to leave the water and maybe do the change on the Monday after we get home? Any advice on what to do? We do not have another tank, so I guess we are limited t what we can actually do anyway! I assume advice will just be wait and see!

Our tank is only about 60litres. Clown loaches and bala sharks would get too big. Thats why I hoped dwarf loaches would be a great solutions, but they need to do more to pay the rent or they will end up sunbathing on the verandah! (just joking btw!)
-
Hi everyone, I thought that after we had bought our two dwarf loaches that the snail problem had evened out, but recently our little boys seems to be a bit lazy! The snails are back with a vengance! Any ways to reduce these fellas again without using any chemicals?! Have managed to go 6 months with our tank with out only fatality being a neon, so would like to keep it that way! Once tried a bit of lettuse on a string, but that didn't work at all! Just looked daft! HELP please HELP! The snails look untidy in the tank, from a distance they look like brown poop on the tank floor!

Went to get a Siamese Fighter on the weekend, but the only ones they had were round tailed ones... I wanted the full beautiful tail! Couldn't help but fall in love with a couple off little fish that I had to buy. When I got home I looked back on here only to see that the Blue Rams I had bought were a suggestion on this post! They are so cool. They really look as cool as marine fish! Excited about the fact that they have breeding potential too. All the fish in the tank are very happy with their new tank mates. The more fish we add the happier the other inhabitants seem to get. We also bought a magnetic window cleaner too... what a genius invention! Now I just have to wait for the algae to grow again so I can use it! The dwarf gourami pictured above looks fabulous! Will have to hunt those out at some stage in the future, as well a bettas!

Would be great to fix it rather than have to buy a new one... what do you mean 'starter'? It does flick on and off, its not like it is just off permanently.

My tank as I stated above is what you are looking at. My plants look great, in fac had to trim them back massively on Saturday. Have had it about 6 months. On Saturday after cleaning out my tank the filter stopped and was a bit hit'n'miss whether it would start again! Apparently this happens from time to time with all filters!? Problem is, today, never having had any previous problems with the tank, I got home from work to find the bulb flickering on and off. It looks to have blown somewhere in it and I guess I'll have to replace it. Little fishies will have to go with dim mood lighting tomorrow! Anyone else have this problem?

Is there any chance the siamese algae eaters will nip at the tails of siamese fighters? (I'll be getting a siamese cat soon!)
-
We only have a small flat, not really enough room for another tank... nor will the bank balance allow for it! There is room in the tank for more fish, is there not? I want something really really cute and colourful in there as most of the fish in there are there simply to get a job done...ie, eat snails and algae!
-
Hi, I have the fish as listed below in my 60l tank. I've just had a big clean out of plants that were getting out of control, there is now more space in the tank and the fish are all scooting about very happy with their water change! I'm now looking at it wandering what do do with the tank next. Anyone got any ideas? Wouldn't mind beginning to breed some babies... maybe some bristlenoses, just not sure about the room available in the tank?

I have a Juwel 60, the light seems bright enough. I like the fact that the filter etc are all housed too. Looks nice an tidy and I don't have to worry about damage to my fish. Is nice an quiet.
