  1. ive only got a 60 litre tank lol... thats a nice catfish you got there.... where did ya get it from??? sry, really noob question... what are those really big things with red on them? and also what kind of knife fish is that???
  2. I know youve probably looked online already... Just a thought though... http://www.fishdoc.co.uk/disease/diseasehome.htm Those are some handsome fish... what a shame! Shortee
  3. ok .. hmm, Ive just put aquatic mix in my 75l tank with stones on top... with lots of plants that are growing happily... and was thinking about a bristlenose... so they dig lots and need softer sandy substrate - not so good for a planted tank then?
  4. Im sorry I cant help Spider, but I do want to convey my sympathies, such big losses must be terrible for you! I hope someone can help you and your fish soon!! Best of luck, Shortee
  5. Nice to see another cantab here... My teenage son and I have three tanks and he is new to the hobby... Ive had fish on and off for a few years (ahem quite a few yrs now!) Good luck with your tank... Best wishes, Shortee :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
  6. Dont you just hate days like that? I have done that myself, and my son nearly did that when we were doing a water change yesterday on our smaller tank... My paranoia leads me to keep a spare heater and filter on hand just in case  Im having one of those days today. Have just noticed in our new 74l tank that two of the neon tetras have a white spot here and there (fins and tail)... *sigh* So its time to roll up the sleeves and dig in I guess. What kind of plecos do you have chickiejo? Do you have other fish too? Hope everything gets back to *normal* again soon! Keep smiling, Shortee :bounce:
  7. Really enjoy reading everyones posts and learning lots... Have now got two tanks going - planted and cycled successfully (so far!) with orange platies, guppies and neons & glowlightss in one, albino corys (Charles, Diana and Rodney) and guppy fry in the other... and number three tank in the making - a 74l tank that I hope to have something different in... kuhlis or something that isnt a livebearer :-) Cheers & Happy Fishing, Shortee
  8. Did you see the freshwater puffer on trademe for sale this week? ... Dont know if youre still looking or not? Best Fishes Shortee
  9. Thanks Keri Anne - I will, because Im hoping that we can breed (just for ourselves, not to sell or anything) as true as possible. I wondered about it being a weakness, it looked really wrong... and I felt like she might have been suffering. I got her when she was heavily pregnant, so I dont know what she looked like beforehand. No others seem to have that problem, but if they come from the same place, they might have the same genetic tendency in their fry could they? Thanks for your help, Take care Shortee
  10. We lost the big girl today , so I guess having babies was rougher for her than the others... and I think she may have been older than first thought too, she was by far the larger of the seven preggie girls we got. Still, we are learning lots, and have a tank of little guppy fry to watch. Got some java moss today for them to hide in and I have to say WE LOVE ORGANISM!!! We got some wee algae eaters too who never sit still! Theyre awesome... so busy! Thanks all Shortee :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
  11. I got replacements yesterday at LFS - 6 in a pack for around $10 which is great... Thankyou everyone for your comments ... Now back to Fishing Shortee :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
  12. For your replies, Im truly grateful for your advice and imput, this fish breeding thing gets trickier by the minute! So, we have this girl with the bent tail - will she live happily ever after and continue to breed bent tailed fry or normal ones... or will she pass to the big fish bowl in the sky? Cheers Shortee
