  1. mollys from your local pet store will survive in salt water and are prolific live bearers. Also glass shrimps from rockpools may be a goer
  2. as i have told you today i will be in Auckland next week so if you want and its alright with evilkanevil i could pick up his frags say wednesday and bring the back to Tauranga for him to collect.
  3. sweet steve s thats what i thought yet a tropical marine breeder who i trust implicitly told me this and yes i do collect them from the rock pools at the base of Mount Maunganui and i float for about 15min to aclimatise to my water quality. Then they are tipped straight in and i have had them in there for up to 8 months. cheers.

  12. hi guys thanks for your speedy replies i take it a sharp razor blade is the tool of joice and if i cut the head of how far up the stem do i cut it and chopping up the head in to smaller bits how big should the peices be once they are cut up. And my tank is only a Ar620 so if i was to run carbon which i do occasionly do i place the carbon in the filter part or not this is where i usually place it. And after chopping it up how soon would you recomend i do a water change and how much i usually do a quater every three to four weeks as i cant run a protein skimmer ( but im looking at modifing it so that i can.)
  13. sorry i should have added that i beleive that it is a pin cushion leatherwith

    Not so good

hi i am realativly new to this hobby and will only buy cultured or captive breed fish. i have a small aquarim which i have run now for three and a bit years in that time i have lost one anemone due to a local pet shop giving me the wrong info. Just recently i lost a bangai cardinal ( which was captive breed i know this as i know the breeder.) My bangai was eaten by a recently aquired bta just saw the last of it disappering in to the btas mouth. My perculas are captive breed ( same breeder) Now having all the flashest of equipment would be nice but impossible on a single income. So thru careful maitanence and REGULAR water changes i have a healthy aquarim where i have good growth rates on both my corals and fish. So it is possible to have a nice aquarim on a very modest budget. By the way i have lived in Tonga for thee years and have veiwed the massacre of reefs due to explosives to create or widen shipping channels. The destruction caused by run of from near by piggerys is also disheartning. I see that the aquarim is a way of insuring the survival of these stunning reefs. And where would this hobby be today if it wasnt for the early aquarist tacking stock from the wild and percerving with it. Anyway thats my veiw. And sorry for the spelling mistakes.
  16. if it is a clean crack windsreen people can fix if it is dirty or has something else in ti they cant.
  17. personally it looks like you have the large grade lime chip i would go with the medium i use it myself. And yes it doesnt stay white but comes up pretty well when doing a gravel clean.

    My tank

Hi i found for an unwell anemone frozen mussel great. Grab some live ones from your local super and place on the bench when you get home and wait untill they start to open. Then breack them open scoop out of shell place in a bag and freeze. Theory is freezing kills any Parasites or lurgies that may be there. Once frozen cut of a peice about the size of your fingernail and feed. Mine love it
  20. Help upon checking out my tank this morning as i do every morning i have discovered that our regal tang has developed whiskers over night. They are located just below her/his jaw i can only think that she has had ago at the rather large reclusive blue flat worm that i have hiding out. I do go thr every time i can catch them and remove them. But this guy is difficult. Is this going to affect our tang in anyway or will they come out of there own accord. I have seen flat worm traps on trade me are these any good. Please all thoughts greatly appreciated.
  21. awesome looking tank congrats on a great job. Makes my ar620 tank look sorry.

  24. How do you get a mushroom to stick to a rock. I have one that prefers to be on the gravel at the bottom of my tank. I keep placing it back on to a rock and before long its back on the gravel at the bottom.
