    Crazy goldfish

they need to be in a 48inches tank, that`s 48"x12"x15" at least, theyre dying as their growth has been stunted...sorry to say this , but unless you find them a larger home or a pond, they WILL die...sorry...and to re-iterate...48" that`s 4 foot long....

    Crazy goldfish

First of all, i would take out the air pump and do a water change..immediately. How big is the tank and how old are the goldies? Is the water changed regularly, do they have a filter? Sorry, but all these things are important..sound to me like swim bladder probs, and that is usually caused by poor water maintainence..without more info, i can`t really help...
  3. How many fish are in your 24" tank? to lose two large bristlenoses(about6" fully grown) that`s the tank half full capacity! so what else have you got in there? Overstocking creates its own problems, due to stress, stress makes fish ill, hence whitespot...a stress illness... Jan.x
  4. No! I wouldn`t. How big is your tank? I have two goldfish, they are 10yo and they live in a 48x12x15 tank,(that`s inches!) that is fully stocked... Goldfish are coldwater fish, tropicals are tropical fish used to temps of around75f... I cannot understand how anyone can mix coldwater and tropical fish, it`s wrong... btw, what tropicals do you have in with your poor goldies??? Jan.
  5. a friend of mine had real problems with green water etc, not liking chemicals he`s gone the `green` route...by putting willow twigs in the tank, long ones that go into the substrate, as they begin to root they absorb the algae...clear tank...took a while but all`s well now!! Just a thought....xxx
  6. well, what a palaver working out how to use this darn medication...no clear concise instructions at all..the more i looked the more baffled i became...i even went on the website...advice? buy the book..huh It`s been decided that it`s a once a week treatment, but no idea when to end treatment, so, when i`ve finished the bottle, i`ll see what happens.. Anyone else had problems..darn interpet...grr, just hope the meds work...
  7. put a bath scrunchie over the filter outlet, seems to have solved the wobble problem....(a new one....) got interpet stuff for fungal/finrot etc... Just playing the waiting game now...cross fingers.xxx
  8. Thanks Caryl. I`ve had to turn off the filter, it was a real battle for them, they`re not wobbling now. I know it will have to be turned back on, but for now i think it best not to have them struggling to fight the current...will see if i can find a cheap small filter... Just want them to stay upright..

    Overfeeding

Found out recently that one way to know you`re overfeeding is watch for snails...they only survive if there is excess food in the tank!!! I`m much more careful now, hate snails...ughh!
  10. Forgot, i have pictures...Meet Fred and Ginger..
  11. Just done a fish rescue today... lovely fancy goldfish were in a tank 15x8x8 and it was filthy ,no filter and an air pump infrequently swithched on... Put them in my 24x12x15. they seem to be struggling to swim, but seem to be loving the freedom of movement they now have.. But.. It looks like they have a fungal infection, red streaks in their fins look like a bacterial infection and the difficulty in swimming suggests a swim bladder problem... Is there any hope? or was International Fish Rescue(me) too late....
  12. EEK! Now i`m more confused than ever....need larger tank...or another one... Off back ti Lfs.....
  13. Thanks for your help... must admit, they look nice... :bounce:
  14. Whiptail catfish, have one in lfs, quarantined just now...was going to purchase in a weeks time... Now i`m told there are loads of em, all different.. My tank is 30x15x12 Are they ok with Corys? Are they territorial, set up settled, year old.. Are there any specific requirements... Would i be better with a bristlenose... My brain hurts...
  15. I`d take it easy, need to work out how many inches of fish you`re planning and i think in your tank, no more than 30" of fish, (that`s fully grown) they will grow quite quickly and if you overstock you will have problems, i rushed in when i should have done my homework first. Read up on what fishies you want, and find out what size they grow to! even then i`d still keep asking and checking..
  16. Been given a 4` tank for my goldfish!!! Just waiting for a stand to be built My Goldies are going to be sooo happy in their new home!! Now what to put in the 2` tank???
  17. It was... had a bit of a sort out. That`s probably why i hadn`t noticed before.. :-? There will be othertimes, have lots of hidey holes tho!!
  18. Ta very much! I hope they dont all get eaten by the other inmates :-? :-? Will keep close eye on em
  19. ok, this is an odd un.. I have six glowlights in my tank, all bought at the same time six months ago, noticed yesterday that one of them is much larger and rounder than the rest. It seems healthy enough, it`s deffo not dropsy as its only the belly that`s big. Any ideas??? I`m stumped.
  20. I didn`t really think you had a kettle in the tank!!! Happy birthday from me! (we`re a day behind so you could have your birthdays all over again if you want!!!)
  21. Hahaha! I didn`t realise they were that large until i had to move the tank which meant fishin` `em out. Had to use a pond net, they were too big for any net at home. :bounce: That`s why i got a bigger tank, but tropical looked interesting, and i thought i`d do ok as Louis&Lestat are healthy and happy. So still looking for bigger tank for them.. :-? Then i need to decide what to do with the two foot, a hospital tank? A guppy tank? Do i need three tanks in a two bed terrace? Will i build a fishroom on my patio? Am i becoming obsessed?
  22. Oops! Not to worry, they`ve got used to my ways bless `em. Rescued them from a bowl of black water many years ago, put them straight in a small tank, nothing in it, just cold water, changed water every four days, when i moved to present address i was given 2` tank and a fluval filter, wahey!! happy fish, only got turfed out every six months. Now they have groovy gravel, bubble wall, holographic blue backdrop and decor is a bottle that looks like a royal sceptre complete with crown top, looks ace. will take advice on soaking pellets. Louis&Lestat are large fish about 8" long and 2" deep so they are always hungry.
  23. must watch underworld after my weekend of mad crazyness and much dancing!!! Party time
