  1. That looks great, i'd love for my own tank to look half as good. More pics! Pie
  2. I could be wrong but I don't think you need to pay tax on 2nd hand goods. You 'may' have to pay GST, but certaily no import tax if applicable. Pie

7.8 to 8.2, sorry man I didn't realise, panic. I think you need to get down and collect some water right now or most of the tank inhabitants will die. Or you could go back to bed. Its only Kalk. I've poured it in when killing Aipstaisa, the water has been frosty white. I've used like 1 CUP full in the tank (my old 700 litre system). The result, lots of deal Aipstaisa. Kalk binds copper too. You might notice and improvement. Chim - All the sillyness aside, you have 0 to worry about. Go to bed, pieman garantee all will be well. Storm in a tea cup. Pie

Whats all the drama about? The PH moved from 8 to 8.25. WOW. Obviously its not ideal but its hardly cause for panic, the tank moves through shifts much larger than this most nights. It will all be back to normal by morning, you may find the skimmer has pulled more gunk out because of the kalk in the water. Otherwise I predict NOTHING happening at all. Pie
  6. I cleaned my skimmer on Sunday, I will need to empty and clean it tonight... Go the Deltec Pie
  7. 1 brazillion dollars later...
  8. Durso wall thickness is unimportant. I have used glass on my first tank and it was 4mm. I use perspex now, and I use 5mm because it was what they had, would happly have gone down to 3. My 2nd tank used 10mm perspex and its too think, so i'd reccomend 5ish, easy to work with. Pie
  9. The controller is universal (it runs on 12v supplied by the pumps). Pie
  10. So how do these detect a power outage or equipment failure? Pie
  11. Sorry I was just saying the $1100 is not a lot of money compared to loosing your home or your life. The RCD did its job, you can design you tank/system to survive in the event of any outage, single point of failure or power outage. At least this is true for me. Pie
  12. Far to rich for my blood. Pie
  13. Kermit - can you program and alarm to detect a power fault on a particualr circut? I'd be surprised, don't seem to be the sort of thing an alarm would do. $1100 is a lot of money, but the RCD may have prevented death or a house fire, both worth more than a few dollars in fish. But still it would be nice to find a way to avoid it. Pie
  14. Chim - If you are restricing the outflow, you can get more water through it. I've run tests, not the most scientific, but I get more gunk per day pushing more water through it than less. Some people have said that you need 2min dwell time, but this doesn't watch with me as the match doesn't add up anyway. Pie
  15. Ira - if your still using the tank I made, your hole has a 20mm (30mm drilled) hansen fitting through it. Pie
  16. Did you actually bother to read what I wrote? You asked these questions: 1. Does the gear seem suitable for my plans? 2. I am honestly at a loss as to my next move 3. Can anyone point me to a website that will walk me through the process in non tech terms. I gave you what I think is good advice, to help you move onwards, I thought I was helping you out. Pie
  17. Peeved at me? You asked a question, I spent 5 minutes of my time answering your questions based on my own experance and what I have seen from others. I took the time to respond to each of your questions and answer them. Well yes I did have an idea: Now I am peeved, looks like I wasted my time in responding, I won't make this mistake twice. Pie
  18. Do you have the tap that controls the height of the skimmer water level restricted at all? If yes, than you can get more water through the skimmer. Pie
  19. Mu skimmer pulls way more stuff out when there is more water flowing through it. I put about 4500 litres and hr through mine. Pie
  20. So you can come home to a wet floor, a dead fish tank and a lot of noise? How is that going to help. Pie
  21. There is no way a 32mm hole can do 7000 litres an hr. I put about 7000 through mine and its 40mm. Feelers are you planning a MASSIVE tank? 7000 through the Durso is excessive. If its just a small tank 5foot or less, you will run into some big problems with noise and microbubbles. Because your sump will be smaller (mine is 7 feet long, so its no problem) you will have 7000 litres and hr moving through this too. The water will be sloshing around like crazy. Suphew has this in his tank and its pretty frustrating, he need a much bigger sump or less water movement through it. Pie
  22. You will need a 50mm hole to get a 40mm hansen through. You will need a 30mm to put a 20mm hansen through. You can use a dremal to hone the holes bigger if you need to, but its a major hastle (drilled 4 holes through my freshwater bow front on Saturday). Good luck, take your time... Pie
  23. Not all the tricks.... The knife is still an option...
  24. Is that a Dr Phil quote? I will bring Opra in if I have too... Again i've missed your point. You have said that they will reproduce when they are happy, this is what started things off. I am saying, that its complete rubbish, they will reproduce as a survival mechnisim. Happyness has 0 to do with it. Back on track. Pie
