    dead cleaner shrimp

This is a weird post. Half a bucket into the tank would have done nothing unless it was poisoned. I doubt adding half a bucket of tap water would have had much of an effect. Why did he let you add the NSW if he was nervous about it? Why were you adding water to someone elses tank. Why would you only add half a bucket. Now the shrimp is dead (Steve was right to suggest the Molt, its caught me out many times, infact 2 weeks ago - I guess I am a noob...). And he blames you, the guy who he let put water into his tank? If he can afford to spend huge amounts of money on ASW then why would he care about loosing a shrimp. I find this interesting as what is half a bucket of ASW worth? A few cents most. Then you say the rest of his fish, but none of the other fish have been effected? Just the shrimp? What should he do? He should A. Do his own water changes the way he always has. B. Not let anyone put anything in his tank he is not responsible for. C. Check the tank for the shrimp in question, as I suspect it has molted. All that aside, something about this post smells fishy. Punn intended. Could this be a return of that guy we had a year or so ago? Young guy, can't remember his name, WASP/STEVE/LAYTON you know the one I mean? This post is off. Pies
  3. I read something ages ago saying that its almost impossibe to correctly identify them visually. Obviously lots of different species. I have many zoo's in my tank, they show no interest. I also have an abundance of sponge etc too. I wish they would eat clover! Pie
  4. Mine are the Tiger Cowrie as per Laytons pic. They are quite large, a bit smaller than a fist. People always commenting on them, they crawl accross the glass as part of their daily routine and zoom through the sand. The only negitive I can see is because of their size they can knock corals over, but other than that 10/10. Kids and adults that seem them in the tank are always 'wow' is that what 'they' look like. Mine are well over 3 years old too and going well. I've never seen any behavior that makes me suspect they are breeding. Pie
  5. Thats complete rubbish. They are active during the day, all day, and they don't eat corals, or at least they don't eat the corals in my tank (SPS, LPS, Softie, Mushroom and Zoo's). Have you ever actually kept a cowrie?
  6. What? I have 2 Cowries in my tank, had them for about 4 years. Why avoid them? They eat algae and people always comment on how cool they are because they have seen the shells before but didn't know what the live animal looked like. Where is the peril? Its a snail, not exactly something to fear, unless you value your algae. Pie

I am in Wellington and am ashamed to say it, I have all your aipstasia needs covered. Your welcome to as many as you can scrape off Not sure as to what species, as Layton said most likley to be Pacific species. Pie
  9. Hahaha now my fish food and my sand bed are going to kill my corals. Jeez. Fay - I added a school of chromas, many of which were/are small. So I needed to amp up the feeding for them and I havn't stopped. I don't really think the tank has improved because of it, but it hasn't got worse either. So I like to see the little chromis feeding. Skimmer output in a little higher perhapps, but I havn't spent much energy trying to compare it. I still have 0 nitrate and phosphate last time I checked (salifert). Everything else is where I want it.
  10. I used to feed very sparingly, I now feed heavly, cyclopsezee 2-4 times a day. Flake 1-3 times daily. Frozen 1-2 times a day (mysiss, brine, home made, blood worm). Pie

.026 here in Wellington after Temprature comp.
  12. Yeah, once they get a taste of fish flesh there is no stopping them.
  13. No the fish would not be dead. Anemones eat fish, this is no seceret. I remember watching an Anemone eat my Lionfish a few years ago, that was a heart breaker. Anemones are sticky, the fish gets caugh, flinches and makes things worse for itself, gets more and more stuck, stung, gone. Pie
  14. New Guniea is famous for its diving, but the political climate makes it an undesirable tourist location for the most part.
  15. Bad smelling sand is to be expected. As is the blackened rock where its been o2 starved. No problemo. good luck with the house sale and move. You tank is a stunner, I look foward to seeing what you do next time around.' Regards Piezilla

Awesome. I was thinking about getting 2 of these for my own tank, good work on the video. Now I know I need one!
  17. I'd rather pay 10x more in electricity than have Nuclear power in NZ. $600ish last month.
  18. I don't mind, just the mention of the 'Z' word often turns into a 20 page thread of pointless drivel.
  19. Has my thread about using filter wool turned into a vodka & zeovit thread? Pie
  20. Easy peasy. I've shipped dozens of corals without issue, overnight. I would only do it in the summer. For 'frags' expect to pay between $25-$40. Same with fish, overnight is fine. Pie
  21. So its normal then? I am not concerned about it, my tank is going great guns. It just surprised me as to how dirty it got in such a short period of time. Piezola
  22. Cyno remains as far as I am aware. I think he sucked a lot out, but it persists. Its cyno season.
  23. A few weeks ago Suphew chucked a Laguna 7 pump into his tank, it has a DIY strainer on it, about a foot long wrapped in filter wool. I remember going over there and commenting on how dirty the filter wool was. Even after just one day, it was a dirty mushy brown colour. He has had an outbreak of cyno and calurpa so just assumed it was related to that. In the weekend I chucked this pump into my own tank. After 24 hrs the filter wool was filthy. I have repeated this a few times, same thing every time. My water is cristal clear, and was before hand. Skimmer output doesn't appear to have changed. Anyone else running filter wool on a power head? Be interested to know other peoples experances. Pie
  24. There is only one right way to do something. Hahahahaha let me guess, Laytons way. lol. If that was true, there would be 1 type of skimmer in the world. 1 type of TV. 1 type of car engine. 1 type of house design. 1 method for cooking steak. 1 type of computer. Should I go on? Layton you need to understand there are 'may ways to skin a cat'. There is no perfect, more correct soultion to all things. Hence the reason you spend hours of your time fighting loosing battles on this forum, you can't comprehend the fact that people choose to do things differently to you, because you think (thats right think) your right. But perhapps in a few years you will read back to previous threads on this forum and discover how immature you point of view is. As well as the skin the cat deal, there is the old 'proof is in the pudding' deal. We have seen pictures of your tank, and after over 3 years on this forum listening to all you advice, which is often debated with your refusal to listen and admit that you are wrong, often. You should take a look at your tank and someone elses, perhapps wasps. Because if all your advice gets results like whatr we have seen from you then you would have to question why you give advice in the first part. Or maybee it just proves that all your theorys are simply just one young boys opnion, based on nothing. Pie
