    New Halide

Growth happens at night when the polyp is able to extend to its maximum, it is then, at night when the polyp is extended that it can secerete bicarbonate and build its skeleton. They don't grow during they day, the don't grow if their polyps can't extend at night. Pie
  2. Woosh isn't a mobile technology, its a portable technology. Symantecs for sure, but if you've used Woosh you will understand what the difference means. If you need mobile look at T3G/CDMA or whatever. I have a Woosh connection, G2-G5 modems and the new PCM modem, as well as VoIP phone etc. The latency is high, the network availablilty is random. Its getting better, but my personal opnion (not the stance of my company) is its not worth consideration at this point. IHUGs DSL is debundleed from Telecoms DSL network. Whats that mean? There is additional latency and some 'dodgy' packet shaping going on. Beware, if low latency is important to you debundled DSL is not for you. Pie
  3. The ambiant light from my tank into my own HT room is distracting, you won't be able to enjoy a film on the projecter with the tank on and in the same room (well I couldn't). Pie

  8. No way to know. I havn't noticed bulbs yellowing over time, but as Chimera said, have seen different coloured bulbs that are the 'same' look quite different. If the bulbs are 2nd hand do you know how much life they have had? bulbs loose intensity over time, so you may find its more cost effect to put in 2 new 250s than leave them the way they are and add the 150. Bulb replacement are important, there is enough litrature to know that 12 months is the upper limit for the useful life of a bulb in a reef environment, and some significiently less (some say that the blue/20k last as little as 6 months). change the bulbs with know good ones. Pie
  9. I've got far more expensive things under my fish tank than a TV, and I have holes drilled through the bottom of the tank. I don't worry about it. I have much water current, so far I am not aware of any water spills or splashes from the display outside of the tank. Pie
  10. Ummmmm poisonous platapus? Or is that platapi? Bah. If a platapus/pi bites you and poisons you, you probably deserved it. Lotto wouldn't get you harbour views here man. Man its a stunning day here. Piezola
  11. So do ours! (they just import it from Nelson) But thats just the harbour. We have a little thing called the west coast, which has sand, and clear water (you've seen the pics). Hows the traffic today? Pie

  13. I have been feeding cyclops every night for about 3+ months, and frequently for at least 3 months prior to that. Might explain why my tanks so dirty... Pie
  14. Chimera - Having seen that 'pink' poclapora at your home, I can say I though it was just 'another' brown coral with 'potential'. It looks like the potential is showing though, looks like it will be a stunner. The acro growth on the milli and formsa (like) acros also looks impressive. Can't wait to see it in 6 months time, bet its a stunner. Keep it up, get up a front pic too. Nice to see all the hard work finally paying off. AWESOME. Pie

  18. It all comes back to freight. The price i've seen them for in the UK is about 15-35quid ea. Not sure if they are significiently cheaper in the US, but expesnive in the UK. Pie
  19. Any rock or sand going in the tank? Cause its a little heaver the water + lights, hood, pumps etc etc 1.6 tons, pffft.
  20. They are here in NZ. From memory they were a lot more expensive than $50.00, perhapps $90.00 I forget. I belive what happened was people went on and on about them, so some were broght in, then when it came to paying for them no-one went for it. Expensive for what they are. I belive they come from the Carabean. Pie

    Acrylic Sumps

Because you need to use acrylic glue, which bonds. so you need clamps etc. Glass is cheap in NZ. Acrylic is used in the USA mostly because its light so easy to freight, where as freighting glass is frought with problems. The only other benifit I can see to acrylic is its easier to drill holes in it. so if your system is going to change, then this may be a plus. go glass, make your dividers out of glass or perspex, can't be any easier. Take the money you saved from the sump, and invest it in lighting or skimmer. Pie
  22. Lovely sunny day here. Might go for a swim. Pie
  23. I wound't mind a big orange coral in the middle of my tank, just not too fussed on a big brown one. Pie
