Tank looks good given its age! I think maybee you should wait more than 1 day before adding all the stock though Here is a pic of mine as of today: And from a different angle: Pies

The pic is fine and tank looks great! For the benifit of those looking at the above Picture, Steve has a bow fronted corner tank. Its one of the smallest reef tanks around but easily one of the nicest. Proof that it doesn't need to be large to be successful. The picture also doesn't show the hole that Steve had to bang through the house to house all the equipment, but this one does Ohhh and the Anmone in the pic is at least 5 years old Steve?

This leather was donated to me by a reefer in Auckland. It may not be the nicest in the world, but hey, beggers can't be choosers!

Whoohoo Steve! You tank is looking AWESOME man. More pics, more closeups please Ohhh and anomnme closeups and clownfish egg closeup too please :)

Do you have a phone number? email it to me and arrange a time? I'll pop over for a drink and check the oscars while I am there, so yeah you had better clean them. I have a good camera, and am OK at photography. If you wanted I could snap some digital pis for you if you don't have the ability to do it yourself? Pies [email protected]

Its my anemones that won him over Warren. It tanks months, if not years for a marine tank to cycle. Start with a medium size tank, 4ft+. Why not get the tank, fill it with rock and a heater, some power heads for waterflow and leave it for a year! Gives you heaps of time to start saving or building the bits you need Remember the expense comes from keeping the stoney corals (CA reactors, Halide Lighting, Heavy Skimming). Don't start with these animals and it would be a lot cheaper than you may think Go on, GO FOR IT! I know you love the science behind keeping a tank, once you start you won't regret it!

My experance with Hagen test kits is fairly average. You should have no Amonia anyway, so thats good. HAgen will not see another cent of my money again. Good luck Pies

and you don't have a reef Count me in, anything I can do to help Nicks let me know. Pies

Joze I am in Wellington and would be very keen for some decrotive bits for my tank (400L) and for the new tank I am planing (not sure in size, no smaller than 5ft). What say you?

In the weekend I made up some more homemade fish food. Total cost was about $9.00. I got a small piece of Hoki (thats a fish!) with no skin or fatty back, 6 scollops, 6 mussles, 2 large prawns, 100g small cocktail prawns (pink), 1 packet of frozen (thawed) adult brine shrimp, a small amout of green seaweed (from asian food store), a small amount of red sea weed (asian food store). I chopped it all into various sizes, small and large. I used everything, shrimp heads and tails, mussle 'tounge' etc. I then mixed into a bowl. I then made up about 1/3 a glass of gelitine and added this. I then scooped out some and put it into a 'collander' and let drip for a few seconds to drain excess juice before spooning into a zip lock bag (used free ones from BNZ bank for coins). Flattened and added to freezer. Fed some to my fish last night, and saw something I have never seen before. My Coral Beauty ate some. Feeding was frantic and aggressive, more than usual, and the Coral Beauty was in there mixing it up with everything else. I have NOT seen this fish eat anything added to the tank since i've had it. Nice to know it eats prepared food like everything else! I only feed frozen 1 or 2 times a week, as its high in nitrate and phosphates, but the fish sure do love it. Just thought i'd share my recipe Pies

Very nice looking corals there Reef, and great photos too. I'd like a bit of both of those Here some from my tank today: This one is a big success for me. This coral came as just 1 small branch about 2cm long. Although not particulary colourful its nice to look at and its job is to grow into a massive colony and hide a STREAM pump ) This one has turned out very well. It was recessed when I got it, brown and small. It has grown so much I have fragged it once and broken it in half, this photo shows the smaller of 2 pieces in the tank. Also notice some brown montipora attached. This coral is a nice yellow coral, and tommorow i'll some pics from a different angle to really show it off. This is a clownfish anomne! hehehe OK maybee its really a Fungia (plate coral) but please don't tell the clowns... Ohhh and my baby frogspawn. Its a single polyped piece all by its self. Now I specifically posted my frogspawn so that JetSkiSteve could show us a 'real' one. How about it Steve, wheres that photo? Lets see em people!

Do you think maybee he is compensating for something else?

Pies reef A.K.A the washing machine. Layton. Consider purchase of the 6000 not 6100 if your using a sand bed. No mater how I postition mine they just dig a hole in the sand. In some ways I wish I had brought the 6000 and used 3-4 not 2 6100s. That being said I want to turn my water over on average 60x + an hr. That being said, I wanted to future proof my system too. Best pumps on the market. I'd like to talk to you about that 400 watt lights your using too, mind emailing me some details (bulbs and ballasts etc, and suppliers). JetSkiSteve. There is no upload a picture option, you need to link it from somewhere else (Reef is using UR). Reef may be in a better position to show you how to do it than me. Otherwise just give me a call and we will see how we go. Ohhh thanks for the help on the PH thing to, I can't wait. Let see some pics!

Layton I brought 2x Stream 6100 and controller in NZ. The price was a little better than anything I could find in .au, total NZ including postage to me was $1375.00 kiwi. Are you looking for 1, or 2 or a kit? Cameras. I can buy these through my work at cost (wholesale + post and GST). I have organised these for a few people, and can garantee a better price that anywhere else as I do it as a favor to fellow reefers. Cash only however. I am also off to .au later in the month. I am going to Sydney, were you off too? Pies

There is nothing in the photo to give it scale. Its probably just 2 feet high Hahahahahaha 7000 litre and hr pump just to run the skimmer! ACK! Nice one Reef, its a good bit of kit. Not quite 'DIY' though... I don't see any duck tape anywhere... cool

Very nice Reef. As always you have some of the nicest soft corals about. Here is my effort, I only have about 4 species of soft coral in my tank: Above is a sarcophyton. Its the largest coral in my tank, approx the size of a persons head! I have 3 clowns who have taken it as their host as I have no anonmne. This coral has lovley bright green polyps and is often a visitors favorite. A nice varity of pulsing Xenia. Fast growing (by coral standards) and able to open and close it polyps to filter feed without water motion. Mine is a similar or same varity as the one in Reefs picture. Enjoy & lets see some more softies please guys! JetSkiSteve, let see em! Tank Details: 1600L x 650H x 700D + sump/refugium - 900 litres DelTec APF850 Skimmer Lighting 2x 250 watt Metal Halide + 4x 80W T5 Calcium Reactor - Korallin 4001 DIY Kalkwasser dosing system (6L daily) Circulation 30,000 litres an hr (Tunze Stream, Sea Swirl, Closed loop & sump return) Pies
