Slappers? What is messy live food? As stated earlier, I do NOTHING to my sandbed. Made some food up last night. Bits of left over squid, fish, shrimp, myssiss, blood worm, cycloppsezze, flake, granuals, nori, myssiss, oyster, mussell etc. NASTY smelling bright organge badness, the fish appear to LOVE IT. Pie

1x 1260 is no where near powerfull enough to run 2 SCWDs. I have had 1262s dedicated to them, which worked fine. The SCWD restricts the flow of the pump a great deal. My personal preference is to plumb EVERYTHING through the bottom. Strength and the practicality of getting it flush against a wall are why. Pie
  4. My old tank was on carpet. Had a few spills. Was setup for over a year, when we moved i had to have the carpet cut out from around the tank and replaced. The carpet actually went a kind of milky white liquid, made feel a bit sick. for my new tank, I decided to remove the carpet up-front, and put down some lino for it to sit on. They way the new tank is designed I have had 0 spillages, but still water gets dripped from my arms and tongs when working on the tank. Carpet 0 tank 1 Pie

    Swimming Worms

Bristle worms. Free swimming juv bristle worms. I get them from month to month, often quite large storms of them (hundreds) the fish love em. Nothing to be worried about, perfectly normal. Pie

Now this was just for your benifit incase you didn't pick up on it. As for explaining how a sand bed works (or maybee more correct how I think it works), there is no point. You will pick apart anything I say and to be honest, I just don't have the energy for it. I can tell you how it will end, the mods will lock or delete the thread. Have we got to 10 pages of pointless posts yet? Pie

I dived in a place in Malyasia called Rengis island, which was a small island surrounded by shallow reef, teaming with reef shark (black tip) is massive shoals, and hammer heads on the outer reef. The sand on the beaches of this island are blue. Its from large amounts of blue coral the make up the sand. Very odd site, as its quite a vivid blue colour. About as natural as one of those chests that open when an air bubble comes out in a freshwater tank! Pie

Layton - I understand fully how a sandbed works. It was a well researched decision on my part before I did it (on my last 2 tanks). I just don't care to get into an arguement with you over how you tell me they work. And frankly, I am not overly interested in anything but the outcomes, and the outcomes are impressive. Pie
  10. Or skimmed or lack of food, or cooked by lights. The baby cleaner shrimp released will be treated by the tank the same as if you feed baby brine shrimp. They will be consumed. You add say 10,000 baby shrimp to the tank in one big feed, how many have survived to adulthood for any of us, a big fat 0 for me. Shame is right, i'd take some shrimp for $20ea Pie

Hahahaha. Isn't this one of tanks he said was photoshopped? Not sure if there is much else too add to this post. Layton took the bait at the start and look where its ended, 8 pages of pointless posts. Anyway feel educated? Or maybee that comes when we cross page 20. I liked that 1989 reference too, very informitive. I've got a book here written in 1988 that says the only way to keep marine fish long term is to remove the rock and clean it monthly with 10% bleech soultion. A sterile tank is a happy tank. Layton - as everyone has said, its the way in which you attack that annoys and frustrates, and you comple inability to leave it alone. We don't agree with you, and given the way you act probably never will, do you think more posts and pages of links that few if anyone bothers to even click on will make any difference? Of course another thing you have working against you is your decision not to share what happens with your own tank, including photos. I have no idea that you 'could' be an asset to this site, as everyone who partakes in the hobby could be. But you are one of the most vocal people on this site when it comes to many aspects of what is right or wrong, you have 0 credibility. No one cares how you think things work, we care how they work in real life. DSB may be, on paper (or in Bombers fanboy club) a bad idea, fine, i'll conciede that. But given the results that can be had (see Wasps photoshoped timebomb above) DSB looks like the obvious choice. Proof is proof, and the reality is, like it or not, no matter how many links you provide or posts you argue DSB tanks provide stunning results for SPS tanks. Anything else you say is just talk, this is the reality. Pie

You'd be surprised the PM's I get too, in fact I am surprised at some of the PMs I get. But they are normally not complaining about some on the forum, just one... Pi

Did you change bulbs (type/kelvin/wattage) or just replace like with like. I am about to rotate my bulbs and am VERY KEEN to avoid any problems. I am replacing my 20ks with 14ks and also adding what I hope are far more efficient reflectors. Perhapps reduce the amount of time they are on for the first few weeks? How long did it take before the bleeching happened? Pie

You won't let it stand? Hahahaha so whats your plan, annoy everyone to death with pages of pointless links and worthless theory until everyone declares you the winner? Hahahahahaha, hows that going anyway? Hahahhahaha It reminds me of your attitude towards Zeovit, different subject same approach. Pages and pages and pages of misinformation and slander and what did you prove? You proved you have no idea what your talking about, or is that evidence, I always get them confused... Why don't I elaborate on badness in goodness out? There is no need, there is more than enough information out there that I am not imature enough to think that I will be able to change anyones mind on the subject. And besides everytime you post its BB 0 DSB 1, so your doing all my work for me. Go the DSB. Pie

Ummmmm ok... The bottom line is you think you know how sand beds work, hence the logic you apply to these 'clever' little analogys. The reality is your wrong, and you can link a zillion pages to web-sites and your so called expert sources, no-one is listening, and arguing with you is pointless, because you won't listen. DSB work, all the theory in the world doesn't disprove the fact that superior results for reef tanks, SPS included, can and are common with systems using a DSB. Nothing you say, no matter how many posts you make or links you provide are going to change this, it is a fact, just because you don't like it or don't agree with it won't change it. Its about as convincing as trying to proove to us that the earth is still flat. Pie
  17. Hate to break the news to you but they arn't baby cleaner shrimp, they are mysiss/myssidd shrimp, very common, they don't require any special care just food to eat. When cleaner shrimp release their clutch they are about the size of baby brine shrimp with a life expectancy of about the same. Pie

I see you have chosen the zillion post arguement route. Just because you say its a fact doesn't make it so. Simply put, if there was truth in what you say then people would'nt choose to use sandbeds, and thats just it, its a choice. Its a fact that if I jump off a high rise building I will serious hurt or kill myself, this is a fact, its a choice I make (to not jump, well not yet) because I know for sure what the outcome will be. Or is that proof, I get confused easily. Pie
  24. If removing iodine kills mushrooms anyone know how to remove iodine from the tank No idea. I have some Salifet iodine I don't use, your wecome to take some and try it but I would have though a water change is just as good an idea. Pie

Heh. Thats right, I am running blind and hoping for the best because I have no idea what I am doing... OR I can't be bothered getting into a zillion post arguement that will always 'end' the same way. You decide. Pie
