  1. Hey Wok, can you stuff something in the AquaClear to get the water really clear? (is this called polishing?)

When my carbon gets the biff in a few weeks, apart from more noodles, what else could I put in there?

Sorry Tsarmina - hijacking your thread here a bit..

An AquaClear 30 will filter a tank up to 113 litres, this is a HOB filter, you can get them off TradeMe for under $50.00 (look at the Aquaclear 20 auction, details there)

  2. Yep, have a test kit, does pH, High pH, Nitrate, Nitrite, Ammonia. Had to stash it up high in the cupboard since it's got lots of corrosive nastys for my four year old to get into.

I only have a 60 x 30 x30 tank with heaps of plants, I want to put a wee bunch of Glowlight tetras, a few otos and maybe a pair of Dwarf Gourami when the water is right.

I was trying to avoid putting fish in that I don't particularly want and will have to get rid of them later.

  3. Sort of takes the fun out of fiddling with your aquarium, doesn't it?

May as well have a plasma screen on the wall showing a looped DVD of the front of someone's fishtank... gee where have I seen one of those?

I know a cafe in Albany!

  4. gblnb...cat typing, sorry...thing in the front?

Hey Caper, you're lucky your cat just types, our managed to press a combination of keys so that whenever you use Microsoft Excel and click on a cell, it anchors there and selects a whole bunch of cells wherever the mouse moves.

Damn nuisance, renders the program totally inoperable, had to reinstall it to get rid of it.

  5. Thanks Wok, we have allowed for drainage and a tap under the tank, and the floor is concrete, ground and polished, so no soggy carpets! This was actually for allergy purposes, ie no cat fur and dust mites living in the carpet.

I originally wanted the fishtank in the kitchen, where it would make up splashback behind the bench and under the cupboards, so you could sit there and stare at them while allegedly cooking tea. But the room behind it will be our plant room, and houses gas bottles and storage tanks for the underfloor heating, amongst other things, so that wouldn't work too well for the poor fishies.
