Sorry I do not know what you mean by floculant! This is what I can find on the product: "Proquatics offers more serious aquatics hobbyists the expertise and high quality products they need for their harder to solve problems. The Water Clarifier causes tiny particles of dirt & debris, tiny algae cells & bacteria that are too small to be removed by aquarium filters to clump together, forming larger particles that the filter can easily remove. Helps clear cloudy water within 24 hours." http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441777345&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=282574488339117&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023693&bmUID=1109608841295 The tank is quite new and was clear until I planted my plants and disturbed the substrate which is: Chris

My tank has got some strange bubbles at the top of the tank. They are slightly tan coloured. They appeared last night. There was a snail in my tank could it be it causing this? I have removed it, it came with some plants. Any thoughts. The photo is pretty bad as I could not zoom in enough with my camera. I tried to zoom up a portion of the bubbles but it doesn't really make it any clearer. Yesterday afternoon I put in some ProQuatics Water Clarifier could it be this that is causing the bubbles? Chris

Great news - I read an article that was saying that Hole in the Head appears to be only relevant if you have bad water conditions and I am trying to not have that. Chris

Thanks Alan I think I will need to get a CO2 system to get the plants to grow very well and fill in the gaps. Next on my list.... Chris

Thanks for the nice comment, the Tank Size is 300 Litres Chris
-
I know I am bad as I have put too many fish into the tank this early - the Amonia level is currently fine - the fish are all small including Angles and Dicus so their waste should be small compared to normal sized fish. The tank is 300 Litres. And yes it is a bit cloudy - not sure how long this will take to clear. As long as I do not overfeed then I am hoping that everything will be OK. Mantra to me : NO MORE FISH!!!! Chris

I am trying to... I have heard some people say Angles give Hole in the Head, and others say they have no problems. Also the book I bought from Amazon has Angles and Disucs in the same tank. http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/0793804930/ref=sib_dp_pt/104-9683586-0236719#reader-link The angles although smaller already like to harass the discus. But they appear to be happy and I hope they stay that way. Chris

Ph std test : 7.6 Ph high test : 7.8 Amonia Test : 0ppm My Ph level is quite high and I am not sure if it is going to be a problem or not for my planted tank. I have 4 discuss (very small), 4 angles (very small) and 20 neons in the tank. Do you think it is a problem? I read somewhere someone saying that CO2 made there PH crash does that mean mine would reduce to a safe level if I added CO2 which is something I want to do but have not done so at this time? The tank setup is quite new and the substrate is made up of Daltons Aquotic Mix and Daltons Propgating Sand and some gravel and some Shist. This is my tank at the moment. Chris

Mine is definatly a different problem - they are going to send me a new filter unit. Sound is so hard to describe but mine is a drone and also another sound. I am getting a new filter unit either this week or Monday so maybe that will help. If not I am looking for a Canister filter. Chris

How can I make a home made Co2 system on the cheap?
iisfaq replied to iisfaq's topic in Beginners Corner
I checked out a local fish shop and they are selling a pro kit for around $400 which is a quite a lot but may be well worth it. It was a german product made by JBL but I have not found it online. Chris -
How can I make a home made Co2 system on the cheap?
iisfaq replied to iisfaq's topic in Beginners Corner
I had a bit of a look on Trademe and only found one starting $60 Chris -
I have beenin contact with Kongs and they have so far sent me a new Power Head (which did not make any difference) and they are now sending me a new complete Filter Unit. I really do not think that this will make a difference as it appears to me to be a design flaw. I am thinking that the only way to get around the problem is to get an external canister filter. Chris

Does anyone have any complete instructions on creating your own CO2 system on the cheap that will not kill my fish. What about Bubble Counter/Diffuser - how do people create these? I see the Nutrafin product as being mentioned on a lot of sites for a commercial product but these only do 75 Litre tanks which means I would need 4 of these units at $70 each for my 300 Litre Chris

Does http://www.aquariumproducts.com.au ship to NZ?
iisfaq replied to iisfaq's topic in Beginners Corner
I did and found out that they don't which is a pity since they have good prices. Chris -
Does anyone know if http://www.aquariumproducts.com.au/category6_1.htm will ship to NZ? Their prices appear to be very good if you live in Austrailia. Chris

I went down to the local Bunning (Large shop like Placemakers / Mitre 10) and found some plastic mesh used for putting over your guttering on the house. They had a very fine mesh one for $4.70 for about 8 meters. I then went to the Warehouse (Red Shed) and bought some fishing line for $3.60 so I should be set for the next 20 years. Chris

Now I have heard of these things - something like Ena Sharples would have worn. Now much do they cost?, do they Rot?, Where would I buy one? Chris
-
Thanks I will see what I can find in a garden centre.. Chris

I came across a nice simple site http://www.nature-aquarium.com/riccia.htm about planting riccia and java moss. He uses a small plastic mesh to put the riccia in and then ties it down. Just wondering if anyone has seen a plastic mesh this small either for sale somewhere or made for some specific purpose. Chris

Sand in a Tropical Freshwater Aquarium for plants
iisfaq replied to iisfaq's topic in Beginners Corner
I have done a bit of phoning around and found a local supplier of the Daltons products. They were out of stock but have ordered some in for me. A couple of days and I should get it. Thanks for your help. Chris -
Sand in a Tropical Freshwater Aquarium for plants
iisfaq replied to iisfaq's topic in Beginners Corner
Hi Ballistic Do you do anything special with the sand? Like clean it? Do you add any type of fertilizer below the sand? Is your sand on top of stones or directly on the tank bottom? Cheers Chris -
I cam across this site with great pictures of a planted aquarium. The guy used 3 bags of sand when he started and the results are impressive. He did use other stuff as well such as a home made Co2 device. http://www.nature-aquarium.com/tank.htm My question is what sort of sand can I use? His sand looks like you could use it for a concrete path. Chris

I can't find your post about this - I did 3 searches and only got this message. Chris

Lucky you. Chris

I spoke to the lady I bought the tank from at www.cyberpets.co.nz and she was going to contact the importers (kongs) I hope I can find a resolution without having to spend a lot more money - I want to spend the money on Fish and not Filters. Cheers Chris
