  1. Thank you very much, I'll try Payless Plastics etc. How would people attach them? With sticky tape?
  2. > sheets of poly Where can I get them?
  3. It could probably be relevant to both home-made and ready-made tanks, but does it make sense to somehow fit a tank with isolation material to save power bill?
  4. Trumpet snails are quite cute in their own right. I'm not sure if they are going to get to WCMM eggs. Mine are pretty much sticking to the bottom of the tank, but who knows ...
  5. Is it possible to evacuate all water, dry the pond bottom, clean it, refill again ...

    Tonic salt

Some types of salt may have undesirable additives (form fishes point of view), such as iodine.
  7. I need to get rid of some male guppies, and the easiest way to do it is to give them to a friend of mine who has kids. Would they stand a chance to survive indoors without a heater (in Palmerston North area)? Probably not over next winter, but at least from now over summer?

    Tonic salt

I wonder about it myself. And is tonic salt just sea salt? Would people with brackish tank use it, or use something else?
  9. Would you tell more about pearls? Do they go under any other names? Are they cold water?
  10. I never kept one, but according to the literature, they crawl out of the tank very easily. So, the cover should be rather tight. Also, for success, people recommend to put them first in the water they were taken from (I suppose, with a similar temperature). Apparently, they have a very keen sense of smell, and freak out if the smell is suddenly different. When they freak out, they produce a lot of slime, which fouls the water. I'm not sure if they can be acclimated to higher temperatures eventually. It it survives, it should be possible to train it to eat from your hands. Cool fish.
  11. If I add a new filter to a stable tank without a filter, would it cause a cycle?
  12. A question: how are you going to ensure that the flow is the same through all tanks? In your draft setup, if pipe diameters are all the same, the tank closest to the pump will get more water from the sump than the tank the furthest from the pump.

    Bulkheads

Thank you very much for the info.

    Bulkheads

Thank you very much for the info. >most of us use these ... What is the most commonly used diameter (for fish tank overflow)? Would it be something like SFTFT40 40mm (at http://www.hansenproducts.co.nz/product ... /SFTFT.htm) ?

    Bulkheads

Are you using the following product? Hansen Tank Fitting http://www.hansenproducts.co.nz/products/thread/STF.htm

    Bulkheads

There all sort of technical setups with overflows on the Internet. But I wonder, where do people get bulkheads? I mean those fittings that they stick around the hole, once there is a hole in a tank, to attach tubing.
  17. Can we keep paradise fish outside? I thought they are more or less tropical.
  18. I checked out INDAC at http://www.indac.co.nz, and indeed they have quite an amazing choice. Thank you very much for the info. I do not want to dig as I had a very good experience so far with an "above ground" plastic pool: easy to drain and to move.
  19. I'd like to set up some plastic pools (along the lines of the larger ones at http://www.gardenpools.co.nz/baseponds.htm) to keep cold water fishes. I wonder, is there really a need to buy them from http://www.gardenpools.co.nz, or perhaps there are similar containers manufactured for other purposes that would be much cheaper. Any ideas? I am looking for something non-toxic that would hold reasonable amount of water. I am not going to dig them in. Square shape is OK, and probably optimal (to save space).
  20. I had WCMM breeding a number of times, but and I never seen the eggs. I only new that breeding took place when fry appeared. I did have some snails with them (which I could not irradiate). Quite a bit of fry did hatch. Somehow, they seem to grow very slowly. I guess, I do not give them the right feed.
  21. I received the "big" whitewarm culture from them this week. Worms arrived quite alive, but with no instructions as to what to do with them (I do not really need instructions that badly, as I have enough info from elsewhere). It is, well, big - I split it into 3 wooden boxes. Worms are munching on dog biscuits.
  22. What sort of fish do they have?
  23. No I'm not a member and I do not have any Killies at the moment. I could go on using the one I have for a while, and then if it goes well, I could perhaps get some Killies ... It is curious, how people import brine shrimp eggs. It's live animals after all. Do they quarantine tins somehow without opening them? Talking of Killies, one could probably put their eggs in a tin for a while (well, probably not, I do not really know enough about them).
  24. By tins, do you mean very small containers similar to the ones used to sell flake foods? The one I have originated in Germany, which does not make sense (Germany not being a brine shrimp producer). Or, are there any larger "wholesale" kind of tins available? If yes, who would sell them?
  25. What is the best way to buy them (brine shrimp eggs) in NZ?
