im just about to order my 1st marine tank. 1500-600-600 main tank,1200-600-600 sump directly below. eheim 1260 return @ 2400lth 3.7 head (stated), pump to main inflow @ 2.8 vertical.rectangular overflow centre of tank@ 180-120 with durso standpipe,main tank inflow adjacent to overflow box (box higher on 3 sides,comb on low side away from inlet,trying to get pipes centralish) sump order-deltec skimmer,baffles,caulerpa section,baffles,then return pump. question-what size for plumbing? is 25mm ok? -looking at 12-15mm glass, back and front to eliminate centre brace on main tank any comments/advice would be greatly appreciated,thanks

could be good but interesting no mention of the bad damage to tank front and the stand powdercoating is rooted.

i checked out a weirpro hangon or in sump skimmer (dual use) at hollywood mt roskill.i want one to hang on my small tank before i go bigger and put one in a sump.return section that hangs over only measures 70mm which is good as i dont need to butcher the plastic tank cover/ light unit.prob similar issues with the ar and hr type tanks also.will be a good option if weirpro are any good?

can anyone suggest a tank and stand builder of excellent quality in or around auckland. im new to salt with a 72lt tank just finishing cycling and had planned to upgrade in @ 4-6 mnths but i wont survive the wait.wife suggested i just go for it,whos gonna argue with that?looking for maybe @1500 long with a sump under or downstairs.whats a good proportion of width and height with either 1200 or 1500 long tanks?what size sump is the minimum you should do?appreciate your advice thanks.anyone know where you can find weirpro skimmers retail?

my thought would be that water changes would be beneficial if ammo got to level of inhibiting good bacteria growth,but im new to this obsession!does anyone use hang on skimmers on ar or jebo type tanks?also keen to know the order of peoples setup re skimmer,refug,ar and are most systems totally wet or some damp component?

thanks for the feedback.there are so many differing views around.some old school advice centers around water changes to combat nitrate and the inevertibility of constant nitrate @20ppm.does using the sump type system with no canister give 0 nitrate?also i live opposite the water in melons bay so very curious to hear peoples experiences re synthetic or natural.

thanks ,it is diatom type.now for the possibly obscene truth,no protein skimmer,tank is only 72 lts,biolife internal wet/dry filter.previous owner ran this as marine and i thought it a good place to start before i go large with next setup @ xmas 150-200lts with sump ,skimmer and eheim external.knowing this do you have any further advice please?

hi ,wonder if someone could please advise me on brown algie.im new to salt so may ask some cracker questions!my tank is still cycling and brown and green algie forming well on nitrified coral and coral sand,whats a good way to clean sand and will good green take over given correct light?
