Gold Barb looks bent ???

Featured Replies

Hi, I've got gold barb that looks as though its bent. Is this a problem or could it be pregnant ? Because it never used to look like this. The rest of my gold barbs look fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Glen

That fish looks pretty sick I don't know what has got to it but I would at the very least remove it from the tank and with how sick it looks I would cull it put it out of its misery I cant see it coming back from there..

Can other fish have neon tetra disease?? I guess I thought it was strictly something they could get, hence the name???

How's the fish? Any changes?

Caper

Hmmm, looking at the pic of your sick fish and reading the link about neon tetra disease, it definitely seems to be the same thing, doesn't it?

The curved spine, fin rot, muscle wastage and pale colouration all fit the description.

I hope you can find it in your heart to put the poor little fish out of its misery. If you can't bring yourself to cut its head off, there is a thread here somewhere about using clove oil to euthanase fish.

And it looks like you should probably do a thorough gravel vac and water change, and see if you can maintain good water quality to prevent other fish from getting this disease.

Good luck.

Yeah I decided to put him out of his misery yesterday, quick axe to the head done the trick. And did a big water change and gravel clean. Hopefully that will be the end of it. Thanks every one for your help.

Cheers

Sorry about your fish...and a pat on the back for having to do what you did...I know it's not easy.

Ditto to Caper's post.

It's always sad to have to 'dispose' of a fish. You did the right thing. And hopefully you'll be very quick to notice any similar changes to any other fish.

Actually it really helped me to see the pic - I will be keeping a very close eye on my own gold barbs and looking out for any of those symptoms!

I would have said that was a genetic bend, not the result of disease. Only just got around to looking at the pic

Do you have a tiny axe? :-?
