KP
The fish and corals probably haven't seen a rainy day for quite some time   Look really good, love it when you are struggling to see rock
Mark
Great photos. Love the butterfly fish as well. One question do any of the corals actually come into contact with the ones next to them. If so any problems
puttputt
just beginning to lately, acros seem to mingle together ok, but got a hairy green stag acro fighting with a pocillapora, not sure who is winning yet, one branch of the acro is loosing, another seems to be winning. reef
Acros are looking good. hows the growth with the lumenarcs copies?
puttputt
Thanks reef, Acros are doing very well. Growth has picked up noticably since changing the lights, although it was pretty good before hand. because of this growth and I guess larger corals, struggling to keep up with alkalinity at the moment, even with reactor cranked right up. Also Ph is down to about 8.0 with CO2 bubble rate quite high. Need to start using kalk. Whats the best way to get hold of some kalk (lime) for aquarium use. Would like a kalk stirrer as well, but differcult as I'm not using mains water pressure in the shed. I'd like to incorporate a kalk stirrer/auto top off directly from my RoDi unit in the new fishroom
lduncan
Kalk your looking at around $100 for a 25 Kg bag from APS chemicals. You're probably better off going to a two part scheme of sodium bicarbonate and calcium chloride, as you won't be limited by the evaporation rate so you'll be able to add much more if needed. (You could even get rid of the reactor and get dosing pumps ;-) ) Layton
puttputt
no thanks layton, I'll stick to the reactor, too easy. by adjusting bubble and drip rates, got the Kh up nicely to over 9 but its just lowered the ph a bit so Kalk in the make-up water, or a kalk reactor seems a good compromise. And with the amount I top up daily, evaporation rate will not be a limiting factor. Can't argue with my results.
lduncan
What if the reactor and kalk isn't enough? You'll either have to find another method in addition, or get a new bigger reactor. I was just thinking that instead of getting a whole lot of kalk, then find that using it and the reactor can't keep up with demand, if you get the chemicals for two part instead, you will definitely be able to keep up with demand. puttputt
Already have 10kg of magnesium chloride and 10kg of calcium chloride that I use to boost both of these monthly.
puttputt
thanks for the pointer Layton, picked up a 25kg bag of food grade lime today from APS. Sure beats $98 for a kilo at Hollywood.
lduncan
No problem, Just watch the dust when you open the bag, it can burn.

skippy
Sweet Should try and visit a few others around Auckland as well while I am down there. Maybe get some ideas for re-scaping my tank. Her indoors may get a bit bored after the first 20 or so though Will let you know closer to the time if I'm likely to swing by your way Skippy
