My turn to have a groan

:(:(:(:( I lost a gba today due to white spot and the other one is on its way out. :(:(:(

i have also lost a male blue ram.

I got some guppies from a lfs and didnt know at the time that they had WS.

I have rung the store in question and they said "Oh no, it could not be our fish, they are healthy':o yeah right I felt like saying. They did not want to believe that it was their fish that had caused my Gba and Ram to die. Did not want to do anything at all. So I hung up on them.

I have treated with whitespot cure (Wunder brand) and have put temp up to 30. Am i doing the right thing?

As soon as the tank is treated I would of normally gone out and replaced all the fish and started again, but me not having a job makes that so hard.(If you know of any please let me know. Im having bad luck there too)

I have real bad luck at the mo. :(

One of my cats wont walked on one foot. Been to the vet said hes got a temp, probably a cat bite and here are some antibiotics. $56.90 later he is home and still not walking on his foot. Have to take him back on monday to see what else it could be and that will be more $$$$$.

Sorry to have a groan but I've run out of people to moan too. lol

It is quite possible the guppies did not have active white spot at the store but were stressed on the way home. It is easy to blame the lfs when it isn't necessarily their fault at all.

Note I said "active". White spot is always present (like the coldsore herpes virus on humans) but only breaks out when the fish is stressed or ill.

You have treated it correctly.

Sorry to hear about the cat. My mum's cat is often getting into fights and getting bitten. Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in over the weekend and the cat will be walking better before Monday.

just being chased by a net is stress enough for a fish and could probably lower the immune system :-? i agree with mystic on the Qteen thing, most people think 'ahh well, havent had any problems yet so no need to set up one' but its not until you have outbreaks of things that can wipe out your tank lot of fish etc that you realise what a good thing it is to have, my Qteen is just a 40L plastic storage bin with a spare heater and sponge filter that is kept running in one of the other tanks (naughty i know).

good luck with the rest of your fishies, plecos and rams are sensitive fish anyway when it comes to illnesses so dont beat yourself up too much :) also hope your kittie gets better aswell

Thats no good

I love my rams and GBAs!

Hopefully the rest will recover.

I know the dramas with the cats, we had almost the same prob but our boy had a bite on his leg. It usually takes a little while for the antibiotics to kick in properly at least a couple of days.

best wishes

Next time maybe if you quarantine your purchases or fish you even obtain, for at leasr a week, in a separate aquarium, you wont run into this problem again.

So what if you do have to have an extra tank?

They always come in handy for spawning or for raising fry when not in use as a Q tank or hospital.

We sometimes learn from our mistakes.
