Bala Shark

You know if you have a long bath and you have a sore that has a scab, it goes white....

yeah well i have a bala shark that has that sort of thing on him.

It is peeling off and leaving raw wounds, but there was no wound to start with.

It was 'white' all over his eyes, and nose too, but that has cleared up.

I thought it was a Costia Infection (other post) but i'm not so sure now.

He was treated with Furran 2 for 6 days, but only since i stoped the furran has it started to peel off.

i'm treating him with melafix only now, just for the raw wounds being exposed.

Has anyone any idea what is causing this?

I've never seen it before, and although he appears to be getting better, i am concerned as to the cause.

Cheers

Well he's dead.

Finally got an accruate diagnosis last night at about 11pm, and was going to start treatment this morning, but hey, i guess he'd had enough.

The diagnosis was columnaris. It's a gram negetive bacterial infection.

Usually kills within 72hrs, so i guess he did well to last as long as he did.

cheers

Yes it can be called cotton mouth, body fungus (even though it isn't a fungus) and saddleback disease.

It can infect internals through the gills, and externally aswell.

It's real nasty and aggressive!

Some fish can die within a few hours of getting it, it has wiped out huge amount of fish in the wild and in fish farms, within 24 hrs.

Sometimes there arn't even any visible symptoms.

This is my new 'most dreaded disease'!
