rcon021
Just wondering how long it will take a female to produce fry that have the blood line of a new male. I was thinking maybe another 2 more lots of fry and then be able to see fry that are from the new male. He has been in there with the female for just over a week. I have already had fry from the female about a week ago. Any thoughts would help.
Caryl
I think females can store sperm up to 3 months but don't quote me on that

x matt x
Female guppies can store sperm for upto six months. If you put the new male in with the female immediately after she has given birth (with in 3 day) she should get preg from the new males sperm (and old males sperm) giving you a mix of fry from the 2 strains. The faster you put the new male with the female the more desired fry you'll get. day1: 75% desired fry day2: 50% desired fry day3: 25% desired fry
rcon021
hey matt i put the male in before she gave birth. She had a small stomach and didn't think she was pregnant, and what do ya know she was pregnant and gave birth to 7+ fry.
shiuh
day1: 75% desired fry day2: 50% desired fry day3: 25% desired fry oh man..is that right? i didnt know that. 75% of desired fry is pretty good % to work with. i would normally work with virgin females as they give me 100% desired fry. but then virgin females are hard to find unless you grew up them yourself. :-? I’ve heard arguments both for and against it – personally I’m highly skeptcial.
shiuh
i would suspect it is true. as i found out if you cross a non virgin to a new male ...some % of the youngs may resemble the father. but not 100% for sure, depend on the gene of the father and the mother. x matt x
Interested to know if you have actually proven this theory Matt? I’ve heard arguments both for and against it – personally I’m highly skeptcial. It's been (sort of) documented by respected breeders to be proven. Ive had 2 drops thats given me fry from 2 different strains, so can say it is true.
