GeeTee
Just have these 2 fish i'd like a hand venting them. This first one I think is a female flameback,it's just that the male gave her a hell of a time, just checking before swapping it for something else.2 inches long The second is supposed to be a male Cobalt Blue.Hasn't proved himself yet so just wondering. Close to 3 inches long.

GeeTee
The fingers were in the tank for a while, quick little things. I was confident with the first one, it was the cobalt that was the main concern. It does not chase the females about at all, just cruises with them. If I was to get a male of say 2 inches, would he chase the females of 4 inches or would he be a bit warey(?) of the size difference?
rcon021
both female!!
herefishiefishie
Depends on how big a balls the male has. sort of. :-? I would say he will nedd to grow up a bit. Generally a small male will find it hard to empress a larger female, hence breeding may have to wait to the male catches up in size. GeeTee
Just thought I would add some photos so you could understand why I questioned the sex of this fish. The 4 flamebacks were originally in a 3 footer until the fish in question was attacked by the male and sulking in a corner.I removed it and put it in a 5 footer where it was fine. Put the 2 females in with it and it was fine just swimming around not chasing at all. Put the male in this arfternoon and it was on again, but the fish in ? was holding its own and had plenty of colour. (It was only that the male harrassed it that there was any doubt.) Things have since settled and the fish seem to be fine. Fish on left was the fish in ?. The 4 flamebacks, very dull females. This photo is just in because I like it. herefishiefishie
hmmm, a bit of colour for a girl, not unusual. As is females showing light colouration to avoid breeding, or in this case. I would guess that if it's a girl, showing colour as to be the dominant of the females. Put the 2 females in with it and it was fine just swimming around not chasing at all I like the last pic well done, very nice. Any chance of another vent photo for interest's sake? The fingers were in the tank for a while, quick little things. I noticed the wrinkles in the fingers. Frenchy
GeeTee
The fish took a beating today, again.Things were fine for a day or 2. Keeping in mind that she was in the tank for weeks before introducing the females, and then a couple of days before the male was put in. Must be the male doing the damage. Not as clear as I would have liked, but taken just now. This is what she is looking like now, very much the wost for wear. Taken out of the tank of course, might have to trade it when recovered. ryanjury
We recently vent sexed a "female" brown hap from a LFS and these guys are very similair to your flame backs her vents look like shes a female but she acts and has coloured up quite alot.. Maybe the vents dont work out so well on Haps?
herefishiefishie
Got me thinking the same way too. Maybe a trick would be t leave "it" with the girls and see what happens. I have had victorians show plastic sexuality before, so maybe venting can be off. Frenchy
