TM
I have a monti like this I keeps recceding from the base, as well as this it has spots that appear on it. about 5mm round ish. These spots don't recover. Any ideas? somekind of parasite? I have had it for about 7 months, so it is very slowly dieing. I can't get any decent photos of it sorry. Has this happened to anyone else? Reef?

TM
Thanks fay, i have had a really close look but can't see anything, just white spots, there would be about 10 of them. They are mainly round the base bottom 1/
Fay
Sorry don't know then I haven't had enough experience with hard corals yet to help so I will leave that one up to the others, are all your other corals ok
puttputt
Monti nudibranches are white, and the do strip montis down to bare white patches. They can be hard to see but look at the affected areas, especially around the edges of the white patches. they are 2-5mm long, look like a flat slug and have protuberances (sp?) on the back so they look slightly hairy. I hope you don't have them, as there is no effective way to rid your tank of them except take out all your montis. They will not affect any other corals except montis. Do you have any other montipora?, esp capricornis, as this is there favourite and you will see them on the under side of this coral more than any other. My digitalis is the only monti they haven't touched.

wasp
Don't have any personal experience with this, but a guy on another forum had the same problem with monti digi & was told it can be caused by alkalinity too high relative to calcium. Got to say though what shows in your pic looks in primo health, a very nice specimen. I'd frag a few bits anyway and spread them around, see if they do a bit better.
