GeeTee
Had some timber in the tank recently set up in my garage,it was staining the water so decided to remove it.Took it out, put it on the floor, went away and got some water to refill the tank. After about 5 minutes put the timber in a bucket to carry through the house(bucket had 6 inches of water still in it)looked down into the bucket to find a small Platy in the bucket swimming around. I returned it to the tank and it swam away nearly as if nothing had happened. I was going to carry the timber in my hands not the bucket,it was a very lucky little fish. Not sure whether it was sitting in a little pocket of water in the timber somewhere or it is a miracle fish. It lives on anyway. What is the best way to stop the colour coming out of the timber? I think i read somewhere boil it with bi-carb soda in the water??

Caryl
Carbon in the filter will help remove the tannins that are colouring the water. Some driftwood will do this for a short period and others, depending on the type of wood, will do it forever.
GeeTee
Thanks Caryl, I have carbon in the filter at the moment but the piece of timber in question has been discolouring the water in the bucket it was soaking in for a couple of weeks before I put it in the tank,so it will be gone for good.
