GeeTee
Will soon be setting up a 5 footer, around 200 litres. My current tank is around 120 litres and has a fluval 204 on it pumping 680 litres p/h. My question is would this pump be enough for the bigger tank and put a smaller one in the original tank? It will be housing cichlids. I have read before that a pump should turn the water over 6 times an hour, but don't want to waste money that could be spent better elsewhere on the tank. evilknieval69
what are the dimensions of the 5 footer?? the other measurements must be pretty small for it to be only 200L. i have a 200L 4 foot tank which is (soon) going to have a 1200LPH external on it.this turns it over 6 times... for a 200L tank, Personally, i would go for a 1200LPH filter at least. I would just leave the other filter where it is... HTH **EVIL** :bounce:
GeeTee
It's not in my hands yet but I think it was 5ftx14"x18"(1500x350x450) I am tempted to buy a bigger filter though
Warren
Yes, leave the small filter where it is and get a big'n for the new tank. As suggested 1200L/hour would be ok. With cichlids you need really good filtration as they are messy eaters...

sharn
what type of cichlids though? different ones need different amounts of filtration, and like bill said most of them are pretty messy

JoandWilly
You could use that external filter but then also buy a larger internal filter, say a fluval 4 for extra filteration. Even if you had a larger external i would still say use a internal for flow with the cichlids, most of them really love swimming in it. GeeTee
I need to leave the original filter where it is on the 3 ft and just buy another filter I think,Easiest way to do things.
