Warren
History shows however that product pushing directly leads to slanging matches. It has happen far too many times. If we stop product pushing and offer friendly advice and advantages and disadvantages without resellers feeling they are being attacked then maybe we the slanging matches will stop. Agree and Disagree on points of interest, just don't make it personal.
Warren
But is a knowledgable person correcting misunderstandings and adding valuable information to any thread commercial activity or is it just imparting an answer or helping the thread to help the hobbyist (which i thought was what this site was all about :-? ) Lets face it, if someone who sells an item can contribute valuable information to a thread WITHOUT saying it in a commercial context then surely they should be allowed to make a post. Otherwise the rule is overly restrictive and in fact significantly diminishes the benefit that members can gain from this site. This would be fine if it is presented as information and not an argument. It all comes down to the way the post is worded. Too many times there is some kind of flippant remark or insinuation that turns into a slagging match. We know a few of you don't get on and it takes only the smallest thing to start something. By all means, discuss products as members. If retailers or importers can offer information about products this is fine as long as it is information only and not ‘You should buy this because’. If it turns into a slagging match as it often does, there will be trouble. So, if a retailers or importers post is presented as a hobbyist then fine. Aquatopia
So, if a retailers or importers post is presented as a hobbyist then fine. Warren - totally understand what you are getting at, and im pleased to hear that commercial members are still welcome to post in the context of being a knowledgable hobbyist. puttputt
now that we are all happy again, how about letting jetski back on if he promises to behave....
HelifaxNZ
How about under the stars have a word that says "commercial" or "importer" or "hobbyist" like you do Warren, under your stars that says "administrator"? Then when they post, everyone knows what point of view they are coming from. Sad to hear Jetski's gone, but not sure exactly what happened. Oh, and a 12 month probation sounds like a really long time.
suphew
I agree with Helifax, that does sound like a good idea, we all know now, but I know I was confused with some of the comments when I first started here.
Tanksman
Read the guidelines, when are you all going to learn!! ALL commercial activity must be restricted to the commercial section it's as simple as that. We're going to stop the trouble caused by this!! Doesn't seem the case at all and it's not even a day old yet! http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/-vp135376.html#135376 http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/-vp135424.html#135424 It appears more like one rule for some and a different one for others. Sorry, no, he was banned for another reason unrelated to the original issue. If you want to know why, ask him using his personal email. Thanks for the heads up. Is now fixed. Remember, the mods on the site are volunteers and most of us work during the day. Not all things are picked up straight away. Interesting though, 2 mods replied without picking it up!!
